We try an invigorating treatment at the LIME spa in Dubai
Melanie Smith tries the Invigorate treatment at LIME Spa at Desert Palm Dubai.
The promise This scrub and wrap promises to promote circulation as well as deeply cleanse and detoxify the skin, restoring its natural balance.
Step by step My treatment begins as my therapist Lia first applies a layer of grape seed oil to my skin in order to dampen the harshness of the granular salt scrub that she then vigorously rubs and massages into my body. She wipes the scrub away with a hot towel as she goes, eliminating the need to shower after this step of the treatment. Then, a green spirulina algae is applied to my body (making me look like the incredible hulk) before I’m wrapped up in plastic, given a head massage and left to lie there and let the body wrap work its magic. The menthol and eucalyptus contained in the spirulina mix makes me so cold I feel like I’m lying in an ice chamber, despite the hot towels that are placed on top of me and the fact that the A/C has been switched off. All I can think about is getting into a hot shower.
The results After a long, hot soothing shower, my skin feels ultra clean and soft. Once the ylang ylang moisturiser is applied, my skin looks notably glowing and that makes me feel like the treatment is worth it. I have to say, though, it is not something I would undergo regularly.
Pros • There’s no need to shower between each step making this body wrap and scrub less fussy than most. • The secluded location of the resort and spa add to the relaxation levels – I really feel as though I’ve escaped from the city for an afternoon.
Cons • The tingly cooling effect of the spirulina mix is anything but relaxing.
