Jenny Hewett tests a blow-dry, gel mani-pedi and back, neck and shoulder massage at Blo Out Beauty Bar.
The promise As the name suggests, this ultra girlie (you best like pink) blow-out beauty stop caters to women on the go, and after choosing the retro style blow-dry from a booklet of options, I’m hoping to look like Scarlett Johansson in as little time as possible.
Step by step My stylist washes my hair and quickly gets to work on drying my tresses. She’s quick and efficient, but I must admit that at this stage my long locks look nothing like the illustration in the booklet. That being said, she curls the hair framing my face on one side to finish it off, but I much prefer the straight blow-out. I’m then whisked away to begin my Gelish mani-pedi, which includes a good ten minutes of scrubbing and buffing on my feet (the lady next to me remarks that it’s the best scrub she’s ever had and I’m quick to agree). With Gossip Girl on rotation in front of me, I relax as the manicurist moves to the back of my chair to begin kneading my head, neck and shoulders, which totally relaxes me. Later on, the pedicurist treats me to a half-hour foot massage.
The result I’m in and out in under two hours, my hair holds up all evening and I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality and efficiency of the staff. My mani-pedi lasts for a week and a half before it begins to peel off on one nail.
Pros • The blow-dry booklet includes ten options and this should eliminate any confusion about what it is you want done. • The staff are friendly, fast and efficient. • You can watch Gossip Girl while you get pampered.
Cons • It’s a small set-up, so there is a limited number of staff, so it is recommended to check if you can have a mani-pedi at the same time before you go.
