Stroke-prevention, eco-friendly yogawear and festive fingertips
Time Out staff
This week we get serious about stroke prevention, eye-up eco-friendly yogawear and get ready for festive fingertips.
Did you know that one person is believed to suffer from a stroke every hour in the UAE? The incidence of stroke is rising, and worldwide, it is the second leading cause of death for people over the age of 60.
Alarmingly, here in the UAE stroke patients are around 20 years younger than the worldwide average. On Friday December 12, the German Neuroscience Center in Dubai Healthcare City (04 429 8578) is offering stroke check-ups free of charge. Book yourself in by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The service takes about 20 minutes, and can help calculate the ten-year risk for individuals, before advising on the necessary steps towards prevention.
On a lighter note, N.Bar has launched a series of festive polishes, available at branches across the city, including Palm Strip Mall, Jumeirah Beach Road (04 346 1100). Choose from Lauren B (Dhs65 per bottle), Vinylux (Dhs49) and Essie (Dhs42) products in a range of jazzy hues, from Santa suit red to firework-inspired glitter.
Elsewhere, Dubai’s hottest new ladies-only yoga and workout wear store The Hot Box Kit (www.thehotboxkit.com) has launched a brand-new collection from Teeki, renowned worldwide for its funky, eco leggings made from plastic bottles.
