Leah Simpson experiences a liberating outdoor treatment at the luxurious Amara Spa
Showering in the great outdoors isn’t something you often get to do in Dubai. But at Amara Spa, that’s exactly the type of experience on offer. Taking advantage of the warm temperatures the region has to offer, a good portion of your treatment will take place on the spa suite’s private terrace, where high walls and tall trees mean only views of the sky peek into the sanctuary. There are eight of these suites in the spa, which conveniently has its own entrance so visitors don’t have to traipse through the hotel to find it.
Our two-hour Diamond Rhasoul clay ceremony starts in the garden, where the awakening of our senses begins. Our feet are cleansed with saltwater scattered with rose petals and we’re asked to select a soundtrack for our session from a list of music options. Our Diamond treatment – which promotes clarity and is supposed to stabilise our physical and emotional well-being – starts with an exfoliating scrub. You can customise your experience by opting for another “Jewel of Arabia” such as emerald for prosperity, ruby for vitality, or sapphire for tranquillity.
Our therapist wraps us in towels so we stay warm while a healing Bedouin-blend herbal exfoliator gets to work on our skin. We then experience those liberating rain showers to rinse the concoction off before a clay mask embalms our frame.
Following the detoxifying mineral application and a second al fresco shower – you can also choose to use the indoor shower – we breathe in a spritz of rosewater and drift off while being massaged with just the right amount of pressure to release the knots. Using a neroli essential oil blended with camellia, the gentle scent remains with us as we re-energise with herbal tea and dried fruit and nuts after our session.
