Benita Adesuyan works on her downward dog at a rooftop yoga class
The Promise Held by Urban Yoga and Talise Fitness, these monthly classes aim to make yoga accessible, while embracing Dubai’s great weather.
Step by Step The class is held on a terrace between Jumeirah Emirates Towers, and is instructed by Omar, who conducts the session from a stage at the front using a portable mic. Chilled tunes play as we follow his demonstrations and get into the different poses. The class teaches flow yoga, using a theory of “one breath, one pose”, and Omar shows different options for each, to match different levels of ability. The Result It’s a unique setting, in view of the Burj Khalifa, but newbies may find they don’t get enough one-on-one attention (on the night of our visit there are easily 80 participants). However, the free carton of coconut water and snack afterwards is a nice touch.
Pros All levels of yogi can take part, and there’s great music.
Cons The classes are very popular, so the setting might not be ideal for those who need more guidance.
