1 Put devices away Separate yourself from glowing screens – that goes for TVs, phones, tablets and so on. The bright lights keep your brain alert.
2 Avoid caffeine Skip colas, coffees and caffeinated drinks in the afternoon – ideally cut them out from noon.
3 Cut back on drinking That pint of hops or bottle of grape may feel like it’s helping you unwind, but while it might initially make you sleepy, it is more likely to disrupt your rest throughout the night.
4 Focus on relaxing Instead of sitting mindlessly in front of a box set to escape stress, actively participate in unwinding – do some (non-backlit) reading, have a camomile tea, take a soak in the bath.
5 Listen to a meditation Guided meditations can be found on apps and YouTube – and you’ll be surprised how quickly they’ll have you nodding off. Just face the screen away from you…
