The other half has dragged you mercilessly around the shops, your feet are weary and your muscles ache from the hauling around of many bags. You don’t know whether you can face the six (or so) escalators to freedom, or the 20 minutes searching for your car in the multistorey. But fear not – if there’s any place to revive yourselves after a hard day Christmas shopping, it’s at the Shine Spa at Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates. The peaceful retreat, nestled on the 24th floor, offers a tranquil lounge with stunning views, along with five treatment rooms including a couples’ suite and a Jacuzzi. By the time you’re finished, post-shopping fatigue will be a thing of the past, although there’s nothing we can do to delay the Christmas credit card bill. Dhs895 (two people, 50-minute), Dhs1,100 (two people, 80-minute). Open daily 7am-10pm. Ongoing. Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel, Al Barsha (04 377 2380).
Couples’ Quality Time at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort
Treat your other half to a trip to Thailand, without the expense of flights or the hassle of venturing anywhere, really, except for the Palm. Anantara Spa is a luxury Asian-inspired sanctuary that feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Palm Retreat treatment includes a floral foot ritual, a milk bath, full-body exfoliation, a hydrating body wrap, Arabian massage and an express facial. The Dubai Romance package comes in a similar guise, except you can expect a stress-release aromatic massage and a selectionof refreshments as opposed to the facial. The hardest part of all of this is choosing between food and a facial, and the best is having someone else deal with your hubby’s crusty feet. Dhs3,000 (The Palm Retreat, two people, 180-minute), Dhs1,800 (Dubai Romance, for two people, 120-minute). Open daily 10am-10pm. Ongoing. Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort, Palm Jumeirah (04 567 2140).
Couple’s Romance at Willow Stream Spa, Fairmont The Palm
Wallow in the scented waters of the couples’ bath and soak up the romance in full knowledge that unclogging the plughole won’t be a job left to you. When you’re suitable soaked, it’s time for an aromatherapy massage using the oil of your choice, allowing you to drift off into relaxation mode. This is the perfect romantic spa getaway to relax the mind and forget how much your other half winds you up with their snoring/loud chewing/insert diabolical character trait here. Dhs1,489 (two people, 90-minute). Open daily 9am-10pm. Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 457 3545).
Festive selection at SensAsia Emirates Golf Club Your bloke wants a massage but you’re desperate for a facial, or your missus is after a hot stone treatment while all you want is a body wrap, (don’t pretend you don’t know what we’re talking about, fellas.) Every SensAsia couple’s treatment is mix and match, and there are even a handful of festive options to tailor it to this Most Wonderful Time Of Year. The Let’s Get Nostalgic involves a maple, cinnamon and sugar body buff followed by a hydrating warm syrup and spiced milk body wrap, an invigorating massage and a mulled mixed drink. The Silent Night, meanwhile, sounds right up our street, and involves being lathered in cinnamon, vanilla and sweet orange oil before a sleep-inducing massage using Chinese pressure point techniques. Sounds better than Christmas morning, we say. Silent Night: Dhs430 (per person, 60-minute) Dhs530 (per person 90-minute); Let’s Get Nostalgic: Dhs699 (per person, 120-minute). Until Dec 31. For Both of Us at The Spa, FIVE Palm Jumeirah Dubai This Ottoman and Turkish-inspired spa opened earlier this year on the Palm, and offers a range of massages, aromatherapy and reflexology treatments. The couples’ experience includes an invigorating massage and a dip in a ceremonial bath, as well as a selection of choccies to wash down with chilled bubbly. There’s even a rooftop pool with hydrotherapy jets that is exclusive to spa guests, so you can soak in the sun ahead of your treatment. You’ll find it hard to bid the sanctuary farewell. Dhs1,300 (two people, 120-minute). Open daily 10am-10pm. Ongoing. FIVE Palm Jumeirah Dubai, Palm Jumeirah (04 455 9964).
Imperial Hammam for Two at Ola Spa, Lapita Parks & Resorts You’ve spent your day being cranked up, plummeted down, and spun around in unnatural rhythms on various theme park rides at Dubai Parks And Resorts. Luckily for you, there is a safe haven nestled within all that adrenalin-fuelled madness that can bring your heart-rate back to normality. Ola Spa provides a welcome air of stillness, with a comprehensive treatment menu inspired by traditional Polynesian techniques. The Imperial Hammam for two is a luxurious Arabian spa experience in the privacy of your own hammam room, followed by a unique skin treatment to leave you feeling good as new. Natural Elements at Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre
Get rid of the Grinch, the Scrooge, the bad Santa, or whatever misery your other half most resembles this festive season. Would Ebenezer still be barking “bah humbug” after a 60-minute Swedish massage followed by 30 minutes of hydrotherapy? You can bet your chocolate log he’d skip the Christmas future and past, and steam straight to the dancing in the street. Natural Elements Spa’s couples’ package offers these relaxing treatments for just Dhs600 per couple, so it’s not going to break the Christmas bank, either. Dhs600 (two people, 90-minute). Open daily 8am-10pm. Ongoing. Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, Garhoud (04 702 2550). Rejuvenate and Reconnect at The Spa, Address Dubai Marina
What better way to relax with your significant other than to get scrubbed down with exotic bamboo ahead of being ravelled up in seaweed and pushed into a plunge pool? Okay, we are joking about that last part, but you can expect an exotic bamboo scrub and warm seaweed body wrap (of the most calming nature) during the Rejuvenate and Reconnect experience at The Spa, Address Dubai Marina. The scrub exfoliates your skin and prepares it for the seaweed’s rich array of minerals, vitamins and enzymes that stimulate the lymphatic system to assist in the elimination of toxins that cause cellulite. The treatment ends with an invigorating back and shoulder massage, a refreshing dip in the pool, and a romantic bottle of bubbly at your own private cabana. It’s the perfect end to a shopping spree at Dubai Marina Mall (or perhaps to calm your nerves after a ride on the brand-new, hair-raising XLine zip line). Dhs1,300 (two people, 90-minute). Open daily 10am-10pm. Ongoing. Address Dubai Marina (04 436 7424).
ROMANCE Me at Lime Spa, Desert Palm Dubai
Trot down to Lime Spa at Desert Palm Dubai for a couples’ spa experience overlooking lush polo fields. You can then choose between an Eminence Organics facial, or a 60-minute massage with a 15-minute foot scrub in the couples’ suite. It’s an excellent deal that is sure to sort out even the longest of faces (ahem). Dhs749 (two people, 75-minute). Open Sat-Thu 9am-9pm; Fri 9am-10pm. Ongoing. Desert Palm Resort & Spa, Al Awir Road (04 323 8888).
The Heavenly Escape at the Westin Dubai Al Habtoor City If you fancy a couples’massage with a view, then head to the Westin Dubai Al Habtoor City for a spa day with stunning scenes of the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai. The experience starts with a dip in the plunge pools, followed by the luxurious hammam and a signature massage in one of the couples’ treatment rooms.
