Dubai has huge numbers of abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs. If you can’t offer a permanent home, many volunteer organisations rely on animal lovers to foster until a forever family can be found. Here are just a handful of organisations who need your help.
38 Smiles Rehomes cats primarily, though also handles canine cases. Regular adoption days are held. www.facebook.com/38smiles.
The Animal Project Aims to find fosterers and forever homes for the city’s unwanted cats and dogs, hosting regular adoption days at Modern Veterinary Clinic, plus book sales at Mercato Mall. www.facebook.com/pages/the-animal-project.
The Bin Kitty Collective Rehomes stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens. Search Bin Kitty Collective on www.facebook.com.
Feline Friends A cat and kitten rescue organisation that regularly posts candidates up for adoption or fostering. It also offers advice on medical care, registering your cat and what to do if you find a stray. www.felinefriendsdubai.com.
K9 Friends A rescue organisation that aims to rehome dogs exclusively. Get involved by fostering or adopting, or sponsoring a kennel to keep a roof over an unwanted pup’s head. www.k9friends.com.
The Senior Dog Project This community-driven initiative aims to balance out society’s fondness for puppies by finding homes and ‘forever fosterers’ for older dogs. The unique ‘forever fosterers’ programme places ageing pooches with families who can commit to looking after them until they pass away, with TSDP paying vet fees, food costs and arranging holiday respite. www.facebook.com/dubaiseniordogproject.
