Head to Casa Havana on October 28 for free breast cancer screenings and advice
Time Out staff
It seems that everyone from car garages to beauty counters is going pink in aid of breast cancer awareness this month.
But, if you want to be sure that your pink dirhams are actually going to where they are needed most, you’ll need to check which registered UAE charities are behind the sea of pink events taking place this month. Even more importantly, you should make sure that you’re one of the many women who get screened for breast cancer, as one in eight women will be diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime. One worthwhile event that has the backing of Brest Friends (partner of Al Jalila Foundation) is the Real Mums Group awareness drive taking place on Saturday October 28.
Women are invited to visit Casa Havana Salon on Al Wasl Road for a day of fun, free pink pampering, pink mocktails, snacks and more, with an entertainment area for kids, so mums can sit back and relax.
Along with the themed fun, you’ll have the chance to donate via a raffle at the event as well as donation buckets placed around the salon. There will be a medical professional on site to demonstrate how to check for lumps and bumps and there will be free mammograms up for grabs.
Brest Friends (brestfriends.org) runs the only breast cancer support group in Dubai, as well as offering support for patients and those with limited or no health insurance.
Get yourself checked.
Free. Saturday October 28. Casa Havana Salon, 892 Al Wasl Road (04 321 5757).
