Festive offer: The Christmas Glow ‘Ruby Ceremony’ includes a two-hour full-body massage using hot stones, followed by a meal.
The experience: The treatment promises to revitalise and turn back the clock. My body is thoroughly exfoliated using a lavender-infused body wash and granular scrub. Then, while the stones are heating, I’m left to wash away the scrub in the outdoor rain shower under the stars – a refreshing, liberating experience. The massage continues with the soothing effect of the lavender ‘harmony’ oil and the heat from the stones releasing my muscle tension, leaving me relaxed with soft, rejuvenated skin. To finish, I’m given fruit tea, fresh dates, almonds and dried apricots for rehydration. A light, healthy meal follows – I choose watermelon with Persian feta and fresh mint, served by the pool, with a choice of teas, juices and fruit sorbets. Melanie Smith
Best for: A treat before the start of a long, stress-free weekend or holiday.
Dhs765 until December 31. Park Hyatt Dubai, Deira (04 602 1660).
Azur Spa on Wheelz
Festive offer: A home treatment service with 90-minute full-body massage and 30 minute full-body scrub.
The experience: The therapist arrives at my home and prepares the room with music, candles and scented oil to create a relaxing ambience, before starting with the full-body scrub. The scrub has a pleasant aroma of milk and strawberries, and leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft (the therapist also leaves some of the product for me to use as a face mask). The massage that follows is effective – I feel tight areas being loosened out, and after the treatment I feel both relaxed and energised.
Best for: De-stressing – it would be perfect for busy mums who don’t have time to go to a spa. Note that it’s designed more for unwinding than for party preparation. Penelope Walsh
Dhs420 (normally Dhs520) until December 31. Ladies only. International City (04 447 5284).
Festive offer: A full colour, cut and blow-dry, plus a Kerastase moisturising hair treatment.
The experience: My stylist for the evening has a quick chat with me about my intended colour as we pore over a few copper and brown samples, before mixing it up in a bowl and applying to my hair. He’s a little heavy-handed, but it’s done quickly. Once the dye washed off, 35 minutes later, a Kerastase caviar treatment is applied, which I’m told is good for rehydrating and nourishing hair post-colouring. When the treatment
is washed out, he starts to cut my locks, snipping away my dead, ratty ends and reigning in my fringe. The blow-dry at the end leaves my hair looking a bit bouncier than I’d like, but it’s nothing a blob of matte clay won’t solve. Holly Sands
Best for: Sorting out unloved locks without spending your whole Christmas budget.
Dhs599 until December 31. Ladies only. Franck Provost, various locations including Mall of the Emirates (04 341 3245).
Organic Glow Beauty Lounge
Festive offer: An organic hair treatment and blow-dry, fresh fruit facial, foot scrub and foot massage with quick pedicure.
The experience: My pampering begins with the application of a deep-conditioning hair treatment at the basin (all products used are from the natural Simply Organic line), before I’m whisked away for an amazing scalp, neck, back and arm massage. Next is an hour-long fruit facial, using natural ingredients chosen to suit my skin type. This includes a brown sugar and honey scrub and a date face mask. Next I’m taken into another room for a foot scrub using brown sugar and olive oil, and a foot massage followed by a quick pedicure using Zoya polish. Finally, it’s back to the basin to rinse off the hair treatment, followed by a brisk blow-dry. Jenny Hewett
Best for: Indulging in a day of affordable pampering before that New Year’s Eve party.
Dhs470 until December 31. Ladies only. Al Wasl Road, next to Eat and Drink (04 380 4666).
The Nail Spa
Festive offer: The Pre-Party Blitz features an eyelash tint, eyebrow and upper lip threading, a 30-minute facial, a mani-pedi with paraffin wrap, a back and neck massage plus two pieces of nail art.
The experience: The eyelash tint and threading come first: I lounge on a reclining chair as my brows and lashes are perfected. Then it’s into a treatment room (complete with fantastic heated bed) for a natural facial using Heaven products. The final step is a flawless mani-padi, during which my hands and feet are swathed in heated mitts, and my back and neck are massaged as my nails are painted. Finally, one therapist creates some hand-drawn glittery nail art that amazes me with its intricacy. It’s a lengthy package (it takes three and a half hours), but the therapists are super-friendly. Rebecca Milford
