Buy a real tree, last-minute gifts and get prezzies wrapped
Buy a real tree Deck your halls with the sweet scent of pine and invest in a real-deal Christmas tree this year. There are a handful of places offering fresh trees across the city to ensure you don’t have to travel too far. Dubai Garden Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road (04 340 0006) is selling 2.5-metre pine trees for Dhs650 a pop. Meanwhile, we’re told the trees at Waitrose (04 434 0700) last for weeks and are enormous, in the style of Scandinavian conifers (from Dhs350 for a 1.5-metre tree, rising to Dhs450 for 2.5 metres). Heading back from the beach, you can stop off at Park N Shop on Al Wasl Road (04 394 5671) to bag a pine for Dhs500. At the other end of town, Old Dubai’s Plant Street in Satwa is filled with real Christmas trees from Dhs500. Those too lazy to choose their own can have one home delivered from ChristmasTreesDubai.com. The company ships 2m-2.5m Balsam firs from Canada for Dhs649, delivered direct to your doorstep until Monday December 24. Professional gift-wrapping Clumsy hands, back away from that present: don’t spoil a lovely gift with average wrapping. Bloomingdale’s at The Dubai Mall (04 350 5333) has dedicated free gift-wrapping stations for purchases made within the store. Plus, if you’re hosting Christmas lunch and need decorating ideas, Bloomingdale’s hosts a festive pop-up shop on the second floor. If you’re shopping for intimates, K-Lynn Lingerie (www.klynn.com) offers free festive-themed box-wrapping at its UAE stores, while British luxury hotspot Harvey Nichols (04 409 8888) also offers beautiful free wrapping services, featuring white boxes with silver ribbons, for purchases made in-store.
Last-minute gifts Looking for something unique at the last minute? There are a few places we’d suggest you start your hunt. The Zoo Concept (04 349 5585) stocks unusual pop culture-inspired gag gifts and collectibles. Handmade cosmetics company Lush (04 435 6114) is a good stop for pre-packaged smellies, while anything from unique Scandinavian interior design haunt D.Tales (04 350 5333) in DIFC is sure to impress, and Harvest Home (04 342 0225) in Jumeirah Town Centre is a great one-stop-shop for kitsch stocking fillers. If you have more time on your hands, Bloomingdale’s (04 350 5333) offers a free personal shopping service to assist with any last-minute gift buying – book 24 hours ahead. Get shopping online Fact: you’ve left it too late to post presents to friends and family back home. Don’t stress: online shopping is here to save the day. Items such as gift vouchers can now be delivered electronically, so you won’t have to worry about postage. If they have a Kindle, we’d suggest buying an online Kindle book voucher from www.amazon.co.uk. Give the gift of music, movies and TV with an electronic iTunes gift certificate from Apple’s iTunes store, which is now available in the UAE. You can also buy albums and create your own music compilations online, then ‘gift’ them to someone via an email redemption code. Alternatively, check out the vintage-style fashion items on Asos Marketplace: order by 11.59pm on December 23 for next-day delivery in the UK. Problem solved.
