Hostile aliens are invading planet Earth once again, and they’re dead-set on destroying major cities around the world. Los Angeles is the scene of mankind’s last-ditch attempt to stave off these antisocial intruders, and a group of marines led by Eckhart are the taskforce determined to save the world. Supposedly shot in the style of a modern day war film, with documentary influence and plenty of handheld camera sequences, think Black Hawk Down meets Cloverfield (though probably with a happier ending). Be thankful it isn’t in 3D, a call that was made at the early stages by South African director Jonathan Liebesman after he decided a combination of this and handheld scenes would have audiences throwing up ‘in two minutes’.
