70s funk, costume fun and a beach party? What's not to love about Nasimi?

Dubai is full of great clubs, but one thing our city is somewhat starved of is good funk nights, which is why we’re stoked to see MoFunk back at our favourite outdoor venue. The music on the night echoed Studio 54, and kept us on the dancefloor thanks to the three locally-based DJs who gave it their all: Schooly, of Radio 1 fame (and arguably the godfather of funk in Dubai) from 9pm-11pm; the night’s founder, DJ Mr Mo, from 11pm-1am; and South African Charl Chaka from 1am onwards. We were also impressed with how many people took the trouble to dress up – at least half of the crowd were decked out in some sort of disco paraphernalia. The only downside? It’s still mighty hot outside, and our polyester afro wig didn’t help matters. Word is that this night’s going to go monthly – we hope so.
