American popsters belt out their hits at the Dubai jazz festival
Time Out Dubai staff
Established seven years ago, it’s no accident that the Skywards Dubai International Jazz Festival is a well-oiled machine. While some acts on the line-up left jazz enthusiasts scratching their heads, we were hard-pushed to spot disappointed faces. The first night of headlining gigs featured a great show from Jools Holland and belting tunes from both Alison Moyet and Mica Paris (and we saw a cute couple getting engaged), while the second night was packed with performances from saxophonist Mindi Abair, guitarist Peter White, and indie rockers Lifehouse. But it was Macy Gray who owned the show, treating the thousands-strong crowd to some old favourites with a funk twist, a superb cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ and amusing crowd chat. We say roll on 2012!
