Our step-by-step guide to giving yourself the pefrect shave
Step 1 Have a hot shower first, and deal with all your hair washing, teeth-brushing business, taking your time, allowing your pores to open and your beard to soften.
Step 2 Make sure your razor has been cleaned properly; reusing it over and over again without doing so is like applying bacteria to your face each day and can lead to nasty red rashes. Cleaning is, in fact, more of an issue than not replacing your blade often enough.
Step 3 Lather up and, with a plain razor (Nestor says that the Gillette Mach 3 is the best supermarket buy as it has the finest blades), go over each patch of skin only once. Shave against the direction of hair growth so as to not get too close to and damage the skin.
Step 4 Rub your hands against your face to find any areas where there’s still stubble.
Step 5 Re-shave any stubble spots with an electric razor.
Step 6 Moisturise or use aftershave, avoiding any products with too much alcohol as they cause irritation. Now you’re ready to face the day.
