Grand Grill Save 20% on all food and soft drinks A combination of low lighting, dark woods and a scattering of tribal accessories (this steakhouse has a vaguely African theme) makes Grand Grill a warm and inviting venue. Since steak is the name of the game, order the 300g New York sirloin. Pert, pink and juicy, the sirloin’s fantastic and, while it can easily be eaten without condiments, the peppercorn sauce is a perfect accompaniment – rich and thick with an ample kick. We also love the blue cheese sauce for naughtily dipping fries into. A rather well-priced restaurant that is worthy of its local popularity. Open daily 1pm-midnight. Habtoor Grand Resort & Spa (04 399 4221).
Hunters Room & Grill Save 20% on all food With so many high-end steakhouses saturating the Dubai dining scene, it seems that this once-great steakhouse (highly commended in the 2009 Time Out Eating Out Awards) hasn’t necessarily gone off the boil; it just hasn’t raised its game enough to compete with the ever-changing, evolving market. This said, it’s still a quality option – decked out in dark, masculine hues, the restaurant certainly looks the part. There’s an open kitchen where chefs busy themselves with prime cuts of Australian and American meat. Aside from the pièce de résistance – the Australian wagyu rib eye – there are a number of nice touches, such as the 12 types of speciality salt to choose from (for example, Hawaiian volcanic salt or diamond salt from Pakistan). A good solid choice for steak. Open daily 7pm-11pm. The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina (04 399 4141).
Palm Grill Save 15% on all food and drinks Palm Grill starts out promisingly: guests stroll through a sleek bar area to reach the huge venue, which is softly lit, with chic, understated décor. The mood is enhanced by the pianist teasing a few jazz tunes from the baby grand in the corner, and the staff are well-versed in the intricacies of the menu, offering advice and recommendations if you’re having trouble choosing a cut. There’s no denying Palm Grill is one of the more expensive steakhouses in Dubai but for a special occasion it’s well worth it. And just think of the savings! Open Fri-Wed 7pm-12.30am; Thu 7pm-1.30am. Radisson Blu Dubai Deira Creek (04 222 7171).
Terra Firma Save 20% on all food and drinks Forget about the green fairway outside, steak lovers, Terra Firma is a paradise. The menu offers steak, followed by steak, and perhaps a little extra steak. Oh, and whatever sauce or mustard you want, plus a side. The thing is here, the high quality of the meat makes the sauces and mustards a little supurfluous (at least, adding sauces and mustards makes paying a premium for such high-end steak kinda dumb). Also Terra Firma specialises in aged Blackmore wagyu – an Australian label that is known for having the finest wagyu outside of Japan. Ordering dessert isn’t de rigueur, though one or two do stand out, in particular the chocolate mousse cake with a sea salt crust. For those who love steaks and don’t require any frills, however, Terra Firma is one of the best spots in Dubai. Open Tue-Sun 7pm-midnight. Al Badia Golf Club (04 701 1128).
