Lounge Save 20% on all food and drinks
Bur Dubai is one of the last places we’d expect to find a rooftop bar. Oh, the newer parts of the city are awash
with them, sure, but the Bur has always struck us as more of a grungy hotel bar kind of place. But the expansive
rooftop is clad in teak, slate, pink paint and, er, fake grass. Towards the edges of the venue, the tables and
chairs give way to four-poster beds and love seats, allowing for everything from raucous group parties to romantic
tête-à-têtes. The amenities on offer are similarly varied. If you just need to sit in the sun and check your emails,
there’s free wi-fi access. If you need to relax, there’s reflexology from three trained experts (Dhs55 for feet;
Dhs70 for arms and shoulders). And if you just want to sprawl on the beds and explore the fairly large drinks menu
or try the food (the bruschetta with beef tomatoes is extraordinary) then you’re welcome to do that as well.
Open daily noon-2am. Royal Ascot Hotel (04 355 8500).

Walking into Liquid Lounge is vaguely how we imagine stepping out of Dr Who’s Tardis might feel – you’re not
entirely sure which time period you’ve stumbled into. Loud carpet patterns jazz up cosy arrangements of plush red
seats, and the aroma of cigars drifts through the air, but the flicker of wide-screen TVs will reassure you that
you’re still in 2010. While this may be an obscure spot for a weekend drink, both in terms of location (near the
port in Bur Dubai) and decor, it’s a jolly good find, with strategically placed screens in between tables, which
afford you with something that many bars no longer seem to consider: privacy.
Open daily noon-4pm, 6pm-3am. Gold Swiss-Belhotel Dubai, Bur Dubai (04 345 9992).
Loca Save 15% on all food and drinks
Time Out Restaurant Award winner for best bar food, this Mexican bar-restaurant is a must-hit place round town.
Perch on high stools and at large wooden tables amongst glass feature walls filled with empty bottles and take in
the modern, exposed brick work and brushed steel decor, or watch the silent black n’ white movies screened on the
walls – this is a modern Mexican bar, where you’re just as likely to find dressed-up girls sipping the bar’s
signature drinks as much as a bunch of lads tucking into one of the midweek ribs n’ drinks deals. Their huge baskets
of light, crunchy nachos, miles away from the heavy cardboard affair you find in the UAE’s cinemas, are a compulsory
Open daily noon-2am. Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa (04 346 1111).
Pub Save 20% on all food and drinks
For a feel of a proper British boozer, head to Underground in the marina. A Liverpool supporters club, the pub
screens plenty of sports, has a dart board and a pool table and best (or worst...) of all, it’s open until 2.30am.
Food tends to stick to pub grub classics which come as huge portions and are perfect for soaking up any excess from
the night before.
Open daily noon-2.30am. Habtoor Grand Resort & Spa (04 399 5000).
Vintage Save 20% on all food and drinks
Tucked away in WAFI is this cosy, low-lit and rather charming little wine bar. A previous Time Out awards winner for
a reason, Vintage has an excellent selection of grapes, as well as a menu which features plenty of cheese and meat
boards. The teeny-tiny size of the bar is perfect for an intimate, romantic tête-à-tête.
Open Fri-Wed 6pm-1am; Thu 4pm-2am. Wafi (04 324 4100).
