Four Dubai residents show us their most cherished possessions

Wael Hattar 33, Lebanese/Jordanian, producer in his Knowledge Village villa
If there was a fire, I would save... my collection of comics. I bought my first comic series The Watchmen while in Geneva, and now have a few thousand, if not more.
I love it, because... it reminds me of running away from the stress of work, back to Geneva, and into the comic world.
My home is... the happiest place in Dubai. It looks like a chalet and you only hear birds and the odd ice cream truck. Design-wise, I try to keep it as sparse as possible, with large open spaces. I like to keep it minimal.
My favourite home store is... I used to love going to Traffic when it was a design store because of the beautiful designer things, so now I check them out online (www.localandco.ae).
Stephanie Held 31, Australian, event manager in her Satwa villa
If there was a fire, I would save... my L-shaped sofa
I love it, because... it was a generous gift from my parents and is therefore very sentimental to me. I got it when I moved into a fabulous apartment on Bronte Beach in Sydney. It brings back so many fun memories. But what I love most is the size – both my husband and I can lie down perfectly on each side of the sofa without even touching each other.
My home is... minimal. ‘Less is Best’ is my motto, so you won’t find too many ornaments or dust collecting items in the house. It’s also very spacious; you could actually swing an elephant in my bedroom.
My favourite home store is... well, I can shop for hours at The One (04 345 6687), especially at the Jumeirah store. It has so many interesting things and I adore all the scents and candles.
Pia Aung 28, British, fashion PR in her Marina apartment
If there was a fire I would save… my gold stuffed toy dog, Percy, from Zara home.
I love it because… it’s the one consistent thing in my life. I have lived all over the world and I have taken it everywhere with me!
My home is… very laidback and chilled. I used to live in Downtown Dubai, which was hectic, but I adored it because it reminded me of New York. Now I live in the Marina and I love it. There are sushi bars, fabulous views of the sea and a great vibe.
My favourite home store is… Zara Home (04 339 9105), not only because my beloved Percy is from there, but it’s also really girlie and affordable. I also love Bloomingdale’s Home (04 350 5333). You can get anything there, whether it’s high end Italian designer stuff or quirky and unusual pieces that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
Shawn Stephens 32, Indian, PR account director in his Media City apartment
If there was a fire, I would save... this amazing painting by Lebanese artist George Bassil.
I love it because... it hangs in my foyer and so I pass by it all the time. Even so, it seems different every time I see it, and I feel like it really speaks to me.
My home is... truly a home – warm and cosy; a haven that I come back to after a long day at work. It’s a true reflection of my personality.
My favourite home store in Dubai is... I have a few as I don’t think you can get everything from one store. For home decor you can’t beat Roche Bobois (04 399 0393). I also love Crate&Barrel (04 399 0125) and iwannagohome (04 399 8952) is great for glassware and accessories.
