Has Abu Dhabi ever rocked this hard? We don't think so
Time Out Abu Dhabi staff
It isn’t everyday that a massive metal band makes its way to the Middle East. It’s almost a dream now, but team TOAD was part of what may have been the best concert ever to hit Abu Dhabi.
The band themselves were surprised; everyone knew the lyrics, everyone sang along, jumped, danced and banged their heads to the beat. Mosh pits, black tshirt, topless men and flying bottles – all staples of good rock concerts, all present and accounted for.
The band played a couple of tracks from their latest album ‘Death Magnetic’, but to everyone’s delight spend most of the night smashing out classic after classic – we shiver just thinking back: Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fuel, One, Master of Puppets, Sad But True – and with every take the crowd almost took over singing.
‘You’ve been waiting for this for a long time, Abu Dhabi!’ shouted Hetfield, ‘You’ve been waiting for Metallica a long time, but we’re finally here!’ Roars of approval from the crowd followed every sentence he uttered.
And not only did team TOAD have the bash of our lives (and get our toes smashed in the process) but we even got some one on one time with lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. Check out our exclusive interview with the legend next week.
We’re sure this isn’t the last we hear of Metallica, and as Hammett put it ‘This concert is trailblazing.’ It is; this concert will set a precedent that we hope the Middle East picks up on, and (fingers crossed) drag in more and more rock bands. Rock on!
