When you’re next zipping along Jumeirah Beach Road keep your eyes peeled for the hot new contender in Dubai’s shopping scene: a sleek new glass-encased structure taking up a prime location in Jumeirah 3. When we visited Sunset Mall last month, only about 10 stores were open, but when it’s completely finished, it’s destined to be the new hotspot for high-spending Jumeirah Janes and Marina-based residents. What’s more, it will also house Provedore, Milk & Honey’s gourmet deli and eatery. Here, we give you a sneak preview of some of the stores currently open.
Valleydez USP: This is the Dubai-based boutique’s second outlet (the first is in Wafi). The spacious store has a boudoir feel, with details such as corsets and feather plumes making for interesting decor. Why go? It stocks a well-rounded mix of local and international designers, such as Romance Was Born, Camilla and Marc, Sass & Bide and Stella & Jamie, as well as quirky accessories such as shark-tooth chains and handbags with tassel detailing. You’ll also find plenty of jeans in new-season colours, such as racing green and burgundy. Where? Ground floor, Sunset Mall (04 380 9024).
Jafferjees USP: This affordable leather accessories store sells its own-brand handbags, briefcases and work diaries for both men and women in quality leather. Why go? To pick up a butterscotch-hued diary in preparation for the year ahead. You will also want to replace tatty old wallets and document cases with shiny, brand-new leather options in colours that range from the more formal tan and burgundy to crimson and royal blue. Where? Ground floor, Sunset Mall (04 380 7701).
Rivaage Boutique USP: We love the design of this enormous boutique (tree trunks soar through the entrance space), and it has a covetable selection of shoes and unique accessories. Why go? While the clothes can be a little OTT, the accessories and shoes are divine. Our picks include the dark art-style black rose bracelets, pencil necklaces and cupcake purse. The store also stocks a good range of fashion books, passport holders and notebooks. Where? Ground floor, Sunset Mall (04 380 7177).

Tropicana Flowers USP: Offering pick-ups as well as deliveries, this teeny-weeny chic boutique even has a specially designed refrigerator to keep the flowers fresh. Why go? For flawless displays of the season’s latest flowers, including too-perfect roses, lilies and tulips. The staff will arrange bouquets as well as glass vase-style displays. If you’re no good at looking after fresh flowers, you can also buy faux jewelled poppies as well as interesting rectangular vases. Where? First floor, Sunset Mall (04 380 9949).
1 Faux jewelled poppies, Dhs50 for a bunch 2 Martini vase, Dhs100 3 Red roses, Dhs10 each
Hästens USP: The purveyor of hand-made luxury bedding, Swedish brand Hästens uses all-natural materials such as horsehair, flax and pine to make sure its beds are the softest and most comfortable on the planet. Considering the company’s logo is a horse, we think the brand is probably already firmly established as a royal fave. Why go? To pick up cute loungewear and accessories, such as duvet-style slippers, robes, towels, pillows and duvet covers. If you’re in the market for a high-end bed, then this is a great place to head, but expect to pay the price for comfort – the brand’s top-of-the-range model will set you back an eye-watering Dhs350,000.
