Boutiques, homewares stores and vintage shops aplenty
In recent years, a handful of new standalone boutiques have popped up along Jumeirah Beach Road, occupying villas and terraces. Spread out along the strip, they range from the fashion-savvy boutiques nestled in the mosque corner to the homewares and interior design stores in Umm Suqeim 2. If you want to explore this shopping hub, it’s best to go by car, as you don’t want to drop before you’ve had time to even shop. Here are some of our picks along Beach Road.
Mon Atelier USP: This tucked-away villa off Beach Road sells Canadian imported Lucky 7 T-shirts, edgy Bogosse jeans for him and her and ultra-comfy Yoga jeans, as well as adorable kids’ clothes, which are made in the workshop upstairs. Why go? The retro-style gym bags are made in-store and feature a plastic insert with different compartments to separate clean clothes from dirty. You’ll also love the jewellery made from South American palm tree fruit and, if you’re game, the mega-high-waisted jeans. Where? Al Hudaiba Street (Street 21B), Villa 14, Jumeirah 1 (04 344 6922).
O Concept USP: This spacious store is your go-to for one-of-a-kind gifts, fashion and homewares. If you need to rest your feet or grab a bite to eat, a small café also occupies one section of the store. Why go? We love the men’s blazers with matching pocket squares, and unique garments such as the Alice in Wonderland-style dress. The kooky Paris-style wall stickers make great gifts. Where? Beach Hotel Apartment, Al Hudaiba Street (opposite Mon Atelier), Jumeirah 1 (04 345 5557).

Garderobe USP: This pre-loved designer store offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, allowing you to peruse rails upon rails of second-hand big-name labels. Why go? For the cool-factor: you can check out their well-edited collection of shoes, handbags and clothes from brands such as Gucci, Prada, Chanel and more, as tunes along the lines of A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Can I Kick It?’ play in the background. Where? Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim 1 (04 394 2753).
Maison Chic USP: Importing most of its goods from Indonesia, this homewares and home decor store sells antique-looking chests, Buddha heads and garden furniture. Why go? To get authentic-looking antiques at low prices. While some are a little OTT, we have our eyes on the old-world-style travelling cases, the Vespa with sidecar and the beachy-feel storage-made-easy magazine holders, which are perfect for recipe books. Where? Villa 733, Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim 2 (04 328 2511).
Showcase Art & Antiques USP: Although this villa is better known as an art gallery, the space also acts as a store for genuine Omani antiques. Why go? This is your go-to spot for real antique chests, jewellery, coffee pots and sculptures. The store also sells thought-provoking art by UK street artist Amartey Golding. Where? Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim 2 (04 348 8797).
