The Gro Bag ‘We found the Gro Bag perfect for spring or summer because it’s light and cottony. It’s also generously cut, so there’s plenty of room for growth, making it great value for money, too. The Gro Bag has a small velcro opening on the back, and there’s also a zip with a popper in the front of the sleeping suit which makes getting your child in and out very easy, and if you need to check for a nappy change. However, Hannah likes to sleep on her tummy, and actually found the popper a little uncomfortable. The long, front zip also means you are able to change your child’s nappy without taking them out of the bag completely. Because the Velcro straps on the back of the Gro Bag make it compatible with car seats, and you can get lightweight versions too, it’s very practical and great for travel. In terms of value for money, we rated this excellent choice.’ Overall rating: 5/5 Dhs220, (price depends on size and tog), Toys R Us, Dubai Festival City (04 206 6564).
JustEssentials ‘This stylish suit is light and made of cotton, so is perfect for the summer months. We found the length was really good and there is lots of room for growth, so it will get plenty of use. It is not too tight either, which is perfect for my child who is a restless sleeper. There is no opening at the back of the sleeping suit, however, there is a long zip in the front which makes night changes easy and hassle free – the sleeping suit does not need to be completely removed if you have to change your child. It is easy to open and close. Despite the zip being in front, it did not disturb Hannah’s sleep and she slept so well in the suit. It is ideal for warm weather and very practical: you don’t have to worry about your child kicking off the covers and getting cold. It’s also easy to wash and great for travelling.’ Overall rating: 5/5 Dhs219, JustKidding, Al Safa (04 346 6050).
The Stokke 'The Stokke suit looks thick and quilty from the outside, has a soft cotton lining on the inside and is more suited to winter sleeping, unless you have air-conditioning on at night. It’s also nice and roomy at the bottom and the cut was large in width, thus allowing for plenty of leg movement. But this also meant more chance for Zoe to get all twisted up. And, like the Dwell, the length was quite short, so even though we tried the 0-6 months size, Zoe’s toes were almost at the end. But we liked the fact that you can do nappy changes while keeping the suit on completely, as it has press stud access near the rear and bottom of the suit. As the Stokke is pretty thick, you only need to dress your baby in light clothes both during daytime naps, and at night. She slept soundly when she wore it in both situations. After throwing it in the wash, the Stokke came out looking like it needed to be ironed! It also felt a bit puffier. But otherwise, it was fine. Our only gripes were that it could have been longer, and the width was a bit too generous. A chunkier baby probably wouldn’t have these issues though. In terms of value for money, the Stokke is pretty pricey. But we liked the quality of the product.' Dwell Studio ‘We loved the look and feel of this practical, cosy suit. It looks light from the outside, yet is lovely and snug on the inside with the blanket layer making it more suited to winter sleeping. The suit isn’t overly large: although we tested the 0-6mths size, Zoe’s feet were touching the end and she is only 4.5 months old, so it wouldn’t fit a tall baby. You can do nappy changes while keeping the suit on, but it needs to be completely unzipped, which might result in baby getting cold and waking up too much. There are also press studs on each shoulder so you can slip your baby out through the top too. Zoe wore light clothes under this for day naps, and we found the suit noisy when she moved about. But she still slept well in it. The Dwell went a bit fluffier on the inside after the first wash, but was otherwise fine. Our only complaint was the cut. If you could get six months wear out of it despite the size, it would definitely be worth the money.' Overall rating: 4.5/5 Dhs270, JustKidding, Al Safa (04 346 6050).
Love Organic Bundler 'The jazzy design of this adorable suit by Millimetre was the first thing that caught our eye, but the main thing we liked about it was the fact that it’s a sleep suit with sleeves included. As it’s made of light, top quality, organic cotton, it can literally be worn straight over a nappy on a warm summer night, covering baby from the A/C draught, but keeping them cosy at the same time. The other thing we rated was the drawstring opening at the bottom, which makes baby changing in the middle of the night super easy, and there’s no chance of catching a little toe or two, which might happen with a zip fastener if you’re half asleep. The only thing that lets it down is the length. Although it looks fairly roomy when the bottom is undone, as soon as you tie up the drawstring, you lose a good few inches. So, bearing this in mind, think about buying the next size up for a longer baby. Great value for money at Dhs170 per suit.'
