Sandance presents Kaiser Chiefs, Armand Van Helden, Soul II Soul, Rizzle Kicks, Zane Lowe & more ... Fri Apr 06
That the last two Sandance events have sold out – and, with talk of a reduced capacity for this seventh event, competition for tickets could be even greater this time around. This week’s festival features perhaps our favourite line-up so far, with ‘I Predict a Riot’ indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs headlining and a closing set from DJ monolith Armand Van Helden, who saw out the fi rst ever Sandance with a Jeremih US R&B singer Jeremih is being fl own in for a very special event – the launch of Chi Boutique. Offering make-up, hair, nails and body art for women, we’re not quite sure how the concept is going to work in a bustling nightclub – especially when there’s a man like Jeremih on stage. Best known for 2010’s doubleplatinum 50 Cent collaboration ‘Down on Me’, the 23-year-old can both roll a rhyme and hold a tune – more than enough to get the Chi crowd going. We just wonder what he’ll make of the new Chi Boutique. Dhs125-250. 9pm-3am, Thursday April 5. Chi@The Lodge, Al Nasr Leisureland, www.timeouttickets.com fantastic set back in October 2010. Then there’s beats and rhymes from Brit hip-hoppers Rizzle Kicks, expert mixing from Zane Lowe and retro pop grooves from Soul II Soul. We say it every time, but with the next event now set for Friday May 4, how can they possibly top this bill? Regular - Dhs250, VIP - Dhs400

The 6th Annual Chill Out Festival From Fri Apr 20 until Sat Apr 21
We’re bowled over by the sheer eclecticism of the Chill Out Festival. The first day sees vintage hip-hop trio De La Soul share a stage with vitriolic Algerian-French punk Rachid Taha, local art-folk songwriter Noush Like Sploosh (herself appearing with a German visual artist), 2009 ME Beatbox Champion Hirabeat and jazzy soul singer Rachel Callidine, amongst others. The second day’s even more diverse, Boppy guitar-poppers The Kooks are preceded by Afrobeat ‘inventor’ Tony Allen, Mumbai alt-electro duo Shaaîr and Func, funk-turned-ambient soul singer Hamdan Al-Abri and hard rockers Nikotin. Oh, and did we mention electro kings Magnetic Man and Moodyman at Friday’s Electric Chill afterparty? A welcome antidote to some of Dubai’s more reductively-minded billings. Dhs200 (single day advance), Dhs250 (single day on the doors), Dhs350 (both days). 4pm-midnight, Friday April 20 and Saturday April 21. Dubai Media City Amphitheatre Click here for tickets.
