Veteran American rockers didn't disappoint at Sevens Stadium

Tension was high across Dubai last Thursday, with rumours rife that the surprise sandstorms might mean the US's fifth highest-selling band, the Eagles, would have to cancel their first show in the Middle East of their 40-year career. But, as luck would have it, the windy weather seemed to set still just in time for the show, as the four-piece opened with a mesmerising a capella rendition of 'How Long', a track from their last album Long Road Out of Eden. With plenty of self-effacing banter from bandleader Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh throughout the show ('This song is so old it was recorded when the Dead Sea was only sick' Frey quipped), they skipped through hits including 'Peaceful Easy Feeling', 'Lyin’ Eyes' and 'Witchy Woman'. Meanwhile, a huge screen, showcasing various slick video montages, made up for any lack of line dancing routines or high kicks. Did they leave 'Hotel California' until last on the set list? Not quite: it was the first encore of three, rounded up with an impressive batch of fireworks, which, having nipped away at the beginning of the last track, we watched from a clear road back to the city. Perfect.

You must have missed the Eagles concert I attended. They opened with Seven Bridges Road. Thanks for the review, but you need to go back and review your notes. The song, How Long, was written by one of their early song writing partners, J.D. Souther.
