Winner – Best Pub Winner Time Out Dubai Nightlife Awards 2012
The Irish Village: The original Irish institution at the other end of town has somehow managed to avoid the fate of other pubs as the expat population drifts south, and is perennially-packed with a homely crowd. The IV also hosts some big-name gigs other venues envy. Dubai Tennis Stadium (04 282 4750).
McGettigan’s: Little over a year old, Irish-themed McGettigan’s has established itself as a Dubai institution already, thanks to healthy roster of live sports, comedy, music and quizzes. The healthy hops, decent grub and tasteful garden help too. Bonnington, JLT (04 356 0000).
Fibber Magee’s: Hearty pub grub combined with a spit n’ sawdust vibe chime with the drinkers at this Dublin-themed pub. Off Sheikh Zayed Road (04 332 2400).
Dubliner's: Faux-Irish theme pub in Garhoud attracts a loyal crowd of regulars as well as a fair bit of tourist traffic. The windowless darkness on the inside actually adds to the atmosphere of a cosily compact watering hole complete with authentic fittings and brewery theme. The home of Celtic football supporters in Dubai. The Dubliner's atmosphere can move from sleepy to raucous on a game night. Le Méridien, Garhoud (04 282 4040).
The Crown and Lion: This homely British pub puts on a decent bar band lacking from much of the competition, as well as live sports and decent grub. Byblos Hotel (04 448 8000).
Double Decker: The red phone boxes and quirky décor make this Brit-themed pub stand out from the competition. Al Murooj Rotana (04 321 1111).
Dhow and Anchor: It’s the out-of-character roof terrace – offering splendid views of the beach and Burj Al Arab – which make this traditional Brit pub sing. Jumeirah Beach Hotel (04 406 8999).
Belgian Beer Cafe: Stacked across three levels including a cosy outdoor terrace, this Belgian-themed bar offers consistently good service, a lively welcoming, deals on drinks and food almost every night of the week and, of course, an enticing menu of continental hops. Grand Millennium Hotel, TECOM (04 429 9999)
