The Music Room: A stalwart of Dubai’s live music scene for years, few venues can claim to have done more to promote local talent and programme interest acts. But a night out there is also helped by a healthy passionate crowd, and its part rock-gig, part-jazz club feel. Majestic Hotel Tower(050 248 4054).
Cheers Bar: Rough and ready rock takes centre stage at this poky, atmospheric venue, in the home of Chi’s former Red Room. The Lodge, Al Nar Leisureland (04 337 9470).
JamBase: Jambase’s jazz-club feel, fine food menu and excellent drinks make this the perfect place to idle away to live music until the early hours. Intoxicating. Souk Madinat Jumeirah (04 336 6730).
Malecon: An impressive and lively Latino band stimulate fiery flashes of salsa on the dancefloor six nights a week – there’s nowhere in Dubai like it. Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa (04 346 1111).
Blue Bar:There’s not a better place to hear jazz and blues, with drummer Rony Afif’s lively quartet gigs every Friday attracting a healthy mix of musos, good-time dancers and quiet chatters. Unlike many pricey and pretentious jazz-hosting venues in the city, it’s all about the music and the good times here. Novotel World Trade Centre (04 332 0000).
Trader Vic’s (Madinat Jumeirah):The lively Polynesian-flavoured band gets the party started at this rowdy, and incredibly popular, nightspot. Madinat Jumeirah (04 366 5646).
