The Boxtones This British covers quintet claim to know more than 300 tunes, honed during five years gigging in far-flung locations from China to Africa. They also write their own music. The Jazz Collective Made up of six players drawn from the Abu Dhabi Big Band, The Jazz Collective put on a traditional piano gig at The Ivy’s new weekly jazz night, alternating the trio’s line-up each week and playing standards and more. The Rock Spiders Rightly recognised as a Dubai institution, after ten years on the scene the uniform-clad Rock Spiders are still going strong. The Rony Afif Quartet Lebanese drummer Rony Afif – the older brother of bassist Elie – is one of just a handful of authentic jazz musicians in Dubai. Indeed they are one of the biggest and best institutions in Dubai but Time Out does need some up-to-date pix of the band - this pic is nearly two years old...
