Here it is – the most comprehensive supermarket price comparison we have ever carried out. We visited the city’s biggest supermarket chains on a Thursday afternoon and checked prices on key groceries. Just to make sure we got it right, we confirmed prices with store staff and managers whenever possible, got receipts for every trolley-load in every store and collated the findings. In the name of accuracy, we returned to each store on Saturday to double-check and confirm the numbers once more. If we found cheaper prices of the same product on the second visit, we went with the cheaper price.
We’ve ensured the products are comparable. For example, we’ve compared not only a 125ml tube of Colgate toothpaste, but ensured it is exactly the same type (in this case, Total 12-Hour Clean Mint). If certain products couldn’t be fairly compared, as stores didn’t stock brands of similar quality – fresh chicken breasts, for example – we haven’t included them. It’s also important to note that some stores (such as Spinneys at Marina Walk, and Al Maya at Marina Promenade) are smaller outlets and therefore may not carry a full range of brands, plus the standard of service may differ between stores. And, unfortunately, we can’t factor in the convenience of each store’s location in relation to each of your homes. Now, over to you: it’s time to rev up those shopping trolleys.
