After-school activities for kids in Dubai
Be the first to comment 29 August 2012Whether you’ve been away this summer or air-conditioning hopping here in the UAE, chances are that by now both adults and kids alike are more than ready to get back into the school routine. But once the excitement of a new class and old friends settles down, the reality of what appears an endless term can be a little daunting. So, here at Time Out Kids we’ve compiled our guide to some of Dubai’s freshest after school activities, guaranteed to brighten even the most lacklustre of weekdays.
Aikido
Dubai Karate Centre, based in Al Safa, Jumeirah 3, has a myriad of martial arts offerings for kids aged five and up. However, top instructor, John Ratnam (4th Dan Aikido Instructor), suggests Aikido is the ideal starting point for young children. Using an opponent’s strength against them to redirect attacks, Aikido is considered the perfect balance of martial and spiritual learning. In addition to strength, fitness and balance, Aikido teaches children self-control, discipline and listening skills. And should boisterous offspring consider this a little too tame, just remind them Aikido also uses the bhokan and jo (swords and wooden sticks to you and me). Classes available Sunday and Tuesday, 4.30pm-5.30pm, and cost Dhs380 for eight lessons. Visit www.dubaikarate.com (04 344 7797).
