This mega-festival had everything one would expect from a Dubai monster gig – cancellations, controversy and flat-out thrills. Duffy didn’t show (she missed her flight, DJ Antoine tweeted ‘worst concert in my life’ after some sort of stage malfunction, while 50 Cent made his displeasure at having to play later than scheduled known to all and sundry. But from the moment Eva Simons (and her hair) appeared, it was show time. Craig David’s still-got-it velvet voice rang out all the way to the back of the narrow crowd zone, before all eyes fixed on Ciara’s incredible dance moves. Naughty Nelly was apparently threatened with a fine for inviting girls from the crowd to join him on stage before venting his frustrations at a lack of audience participation. But he also stole the show with an energetic, charismatic performance that overshadowed even Fiddy himself, who took to the stage at 1.30am and revived a tired crowd with a full-voiced rendition of ‘In Da Club’.
