We explore the coastline to discover the city's top sandy spots
Time Out staff
There aren’t many major cities in the world that boast 12 public beaches on their doorstep. Luckily for us, the UAE has 1,318km of coastline to its name, and that’s not including the combined length of the man-made constructions such as the Palm Jumeirah and the forthcoming Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira. So, with the weather as it is (nearing perfect), combined with the fact that much has changed since we last toured our emirate’s coastline (take the construction on JBR Beach, for example), we decided to hit the coast and update you on the best spots to lounge, swim and play, including detailed directions. For beaches that don’t have official opening times, we suggest you visit between sunrise and sunset – sea currents can be strong at this time of year, making it dangerous to swim at night. So grab your beach bag, pack the sunscreen and head out now.
