Romantic couples' treatments in Dubai spas this Valentine's Day
Time Out Dubai staff
If you can’t decide how best to spoil the one you love this Valentine’s Day (or a friend, if you’re single), spending quality time together at the spa is a great way to cover all bases. We try the most appealing packages in town to bring you the lowdown.
Spa InterContinental The treatment: Romantic Elements Couples’ Retreat. The experience: We begin with a sea salt scrub: my wife and I lie side by side on our beds, expertly tended to by separate therapists. It’s a little sore in places, but my therapist happily adjusts the firmness. Next we’re left to soak in the aromatherapy-infused bath, the lights are dimmed and we turn on the jets. Afterwards it’s time for our full-body massages, and my therapist begins firmly yet soothingly working at knots. By the end, my wife and I are feeling totally relaxed as we sip chamomile tea on the sofa. Hfu Reisenhofer Romance factor: 3/5 Dhs1,595 per couple. Until February 28. InterContinental Dubai Festival City (04 701 1257).
Talise Ottoman Spa The treatment: Romance Package. The experience: As we enter the enormous couples’ suite, our first task is to choose our preferred oils. A deeply relaxing 60-minute aromatherapy massage follows, and when I hear snores from the table next to me, I know it’s doing the trick. Tension relieved, two glasses of bubbly and a plate of strawberries appear, and we jump into the suite’s private Jacuzzi. After 30 minutes we hose ourselves down and make our way back out to the changing rooms. Holly Sands Romance factor: 4/5 Dhs1,675 per couple. Until February 28. Talise Ottoman Spa, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Palm Jumeirah(04 453 0444).
Westin Heavenly Spa The treatment: Perfectly Paired. The experience: My companion and I choose our oils, and a vigorous body scrub is applied first. After a quick rinse, we’re back on the massage table for the aromatherapy massage, which smells of soothing eucalyptus. Though the rest of the massage is lovely, the technique on my back and neck is painful, as the therapist searches for knots. My date, on the other hand, has no complaints. Following the treatment, we enjoy macaroons and a glass of bubbly in the relaxation area. Jenny Hewett Romance factor: 3/5 Dhs1,170 per couple. Until February 28. The Westin Dubai, Al Sufouh Road (04 399 4141).
Ahasees Spa & Club The treatment: Valentine’s Day Escape. The experience: We opt for the pearl balm massage and facial (you can choose a scrub if you prefer) inside the couples’ suite – there’s also the option of a cabana outside. Instead of using oils, this full-body massage uses a moisturising balm, which leaves the skin supple, moist and visibly shimmering (something men may want to take note of). The anti-ageing facial not only deeply rehydrates the skin, but the delectable mix of scents creates an even more relaxing environment. The package also includes Dhs300 worth of spa products. Melanie Smith Romance factor: 4/5 Dhs1,800 per couple. Until February 28. Ahasees Spa, Grand Hyatt Dubai, Oud Metha (04 317 1234).
The Spa at The Address Dubai Marina The treatment: Lover’s Delight. The experience: The staff here go out of their way to ensure a chilled-out experience for both of us, rather than all-out cheesy romance. Lying side by side, we’re treated to a green tea facial that’s soothing rather than deep-cleansing, followed by a traditional Singaporean massage that kneads out knots and any remaining tension. With the package including a box of luxury chocolate truffles, access to the pool and gym, we forgo any exercise, but spend the rest of the day lounging in The Address’s gorgeous rooftop pool. Claire Glasby Romance factor: 4/5 Dhs1,299 per couple. Until February 28. The Spa, The Address Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai (04 436 7777).
At-home couples’ pampering on a budget • Try your own relaxing massages using one of Lush’s special Valentine’s Day massage oil bars. Dhs45. Lush, The Dubai Mall, www.lush.ae (04 435 6114).
• Play some relaxing spa or meditation music (try searching YouTube for ‘Interstellar light – Stephen Halpern’), light some scented candles – Neom offers high-end versions from Dhs97 at Talise Spa Madinat Jumeirah (04 366 6818), take a bath together and then spend the evening in your bathrobes.
• Watch a classic romantic movie – try Roman Holiday, Dhs45 from Virgin Megastore in Dubai Mall (04 325 5330) – and make your own blackhead-busting masks using two egg whites and two heaped tablespoons of plain yoghurt. Whip the whites until they’re frothy, mix in the yoghurt and apply to your face. When almost dry, rinse with warm water.
