American pop rockers OneRepublic impressed fans with a magical set on the chilly opening night of the Dubai Jazz Festival. The main stage remained oddly empty until the US foursome arrived in a silhouette of smoke, to then belt out flawless versions of their biggest hits including ‘All The Right Moves’ and ‘Stop and Stare’. But it was a stunning rendition of ‘Apologise’ which stole the show, featuring bassist Brent Kutzle on the cello. Keeping in line with the blues theme, the group (who proclaimed their love of Ravi’s to us backstage afterwards) busted out covers of Buffalo Springfield’s ‘For What It’s Worth’ and Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me’. Many fans were seen huddling together to keep warm and wrapping themselves in the free red blankets being handed out on site.
