The Lowdown Event: Dubai Jazz Festival [Day two with 3 Doors Down] Where: Festival Park, Festival City When: Friday February 15
Day two of the Dubai Jazz Fest was marked by the conflicting sounds of two distinctive guitarists – the clean, wizzy pyrotechnics of Chuck Loeb and the grating crunch of 3 Doors Down’s newly recruited lead player Chet Roberts. Loeb warmed up for the rockers, showcasing his phenomenal chops on a lengthy version of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Cantaloupe Island’. Headliners 3DD operate in just two modes: slow minor-key acoustic dirges that explode into seismic angst anthems, and faster all out grunge rockers. Playing the bulk of last year’s The Greatest Hits, both got a fair airing in Dubai, but inevitably it was Superman-channelling encore opener ‘Kryptonite’ which translated to the crowd best.
