The Highly Commended for Dubai's Best festival Emirates Dubai Jazz Festival, Chillout Productions Taking a surprising but welcome turn towards rock this year, the 11th annual event hosted The Script, OneRepublic, Deep Purple and 3Doors Down, as well as programming some quality blues in the free Jazz Garden. dXb Music Festival Headliners Afrojack, Far East Movement and Kaskade played this electro-centric season opener. Hosted by Live Nation at Festival City, October 5, 2012.
Chill Out Festival Chill Out paired major headliners The Kooks and De La Soul with artier fare like Tony Allen and Rachid Taha, as well as offering a great showcase to local acts. Hosted by Ohm Records at Dubai Media City, April 20-21, 2012.
du World Music Festival This weeklong event hosted an incredible range of free and paid for gigs, ranging from Western stars such as Gabrielle to jazz legends such as Stanley Clarke, Arabic hits such as Amr Diab and world music legends such as Mali’s Salif Keita. Hosted by du in Burj Park, March 7-16, 2012.
Gulf Bike Week Bikers and rockers came out en force for Megadeth’s headline gig, while Razorlight and Daughtry brought in a more casual crowd. Hosted by Live Nation at Festival Park, October 18-19, 2012.
Mixtape Rewind ’80s and ’90s hitmakers Go West, Ace of Base’s Jenny Berggren, No Mercy, Haddaway, Snap! and Culture Beat all played this one-day nostalgia-fest. Hosted by Sundance Events at Emirates Gold Course, November 18, 2012.
