The lowdown What: Dubai World Cup 2013 When: Saturday March 30 Where: Meydan Racecourse
The big winners at the 18th Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse were the Australian owners of winning horse Animal Kingdom, who saw Caribbean jockey Joel Rosario take the American horse over the finishing line in just over two minutes to claim victory in the US$10 million competition.
And there was yet more competition among the spectators, with even the men pushing fashion limits in a bid to win best dressed.
With queues to get in, buy a voucher, use the toilets and order a beverage, it was a long day, yet it was capped off in style by a typically extravagant Dubai fireworks show and a musical performance by British soul and R&B artist Seal, who delighted the crowd when he moved off the stage and walked among them, taking pictures and high-fiving fans, while continuing to sing his biggest hits, such as crowd pleaser 'Kiss from a Rose'.
