Ahead of Dubai Rock Fest we round up the places to live out your fantasy
Biker’s Café Dubai’s best-known bike-themed hangout attracts legions of the old-school faithfuls, so hope to find a row of classic Harleys outside and a sea of leathers inside when you stop by for a hearty burger. Open daily 7.30am-1am. Jumeirah Beach Road (04 349 3585).
Bullets & Butterflies With a name that appears to be inspired by a certain Smashing Pumpkins song, fashion boutique Bullets & Butterflies is the perfect place to pick up some stage wear, with arty blacks, greys, studs and more. Open daily 10am-10pm. Mercato Mall, Jumeirah (04 342 2243).
In The Mix studio Every rocker on the road needs a recording studio waiting should a flash of inspiration hit. We recommend In The Mix, where established UAE acts including Abri, Fatiniza and Beat Antenna have all laid down tunes. Follow in their footsteps and craft a hit here. Al Quoz, inthemixme.com (04 367 8189).
Hard Rock Café It might sound like the most obvious place in the world, but Guns N’ Roses legend Slash reportedly stopped by Hard Rock on his January visit to the emirate. Who said rockers had to be original, anyway? Open Sat-Wed noon-1am, Thu-Fri noon-3am. Festival City (04 232 8900).
Burj Al Arab Fed by his own Instagram holiday snaps, rumours are rife that Justin Bieber stayed at the Burj Al Arab this month. Okay, he’s not exactly a rock star, but it seems he’s doing his best to behave like one of late. For a rock star to stay on Friday June 7, the day of the Dubai Rock Fest, the website quotes a lowest advance rate of Dhs5,600 for a Deluxe One Bedroom Suite, up to Dhs15,576 for a Gold Package at the Deluxe Two Bedroom Suite. Burj Al Arab, www.jumeirah.com (04 301 7777).
Jebel Ali Golf Resort What, a golf course? Rock ’n’ roll, you say? Well Alice Cooper had a fine time teeing off alongside the best at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Challenge this January. He’s not the only reformed rocker, with a lot of once-crazed hedonists trading riotous late nights for early mornings on the greens. Jebel Ali (04 883 6000).
Rock City The closet you’ll come to the seedy Sunset Strip of ’80s LA might well be this dark, gloomy and incredibly loud rock hangout. Open daily 9pm-3am. Howard Johnson Hotel, Bur Dubai (04 393 9911).
Spirals Let out your inner rock star at Spiral’s late-night weekly karaoke, which offers free short drinks to would-be Mick Jaggers to help get them in the mood, and runs until the early hours. Tuesdays 10.30pm-3am. Grandeur Hotel, Barsha (04 341 8777).
