Audio Tonic Season VII closing party at 360° Best for: House heads Celebrating the close of its first ‘Summer Sessions’ series on the lower deck of 360°, the Audio Tonic team has lined up a packed series of (nearly) all its residents to play us out of the season in (house) style. So that’s Russ Cooper, Megadon Betamax, Julian Jinx, Helen S, Tristan Bain, JC, Rod Lee Winters, Rich Showell, Raxon and Mr Mr – yep, that’s ten DJs in 11 hours. Phew. Free. Friday July 5, 4pm-3am. 360°, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (056 682 6617).
Big Sean at People by Crystal Best for: Urban fans Big Sean may be keeping the world waiting for his highly anticipated second record to be released, but we’re hoping for a few sneak previews when he takes to the stage at People’s closing bash. The American rapper has hooked up with fellow rhyme-smiths Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Nas on the forthcoming Hall of Fame, but tonight he’ll be taking the mic solo. Expect plenty of screaming females and appreciative nodding males in attendance. Free (door policy applies). Thursday July 4, 10pm-3am. People by Crystal, Raffles Dubai (050 297 2097).
Calabar Big Weekend Best for: Refined loungers There’s not just one party at Calabar, but a whole weekend of tuneage to wave goodbye to the season. This means it might be a mellower affair at this trendy lounge than some of the parties on this list, but with the UK’s Bearweasel providing the soundtrack, we’re confident there will be ample foot-tapping sounds. Free. Friday July 5-Sunday July 7, 8pm-2am. Calabar, The Address Downtown Dubai (04 436 8888).
Deep Crates Cartel closing party at Casa Latina Best for: Arty types The creative crew over at the Deep Crates Cartel (sorry, it’s a cartel, not a crew) is marking the close of its second season at Casa Latina in typically tall terms, proclaiming its July 4 night a celebration of ‘independence from the mainstream in Cuban revolutionary style’. That means there’ll be special drinks deals, we’re told (and great DJing no doubt). Free. Thursday July 4, 10pm-3am. Casa Latina, Ibis Al Barsha (04 399 6699).
Thermal and a Quarter at The Music Room Best for: Rockers While not strictly a closing party, this gig by Indian band Thermal And A Quarter (or ‘TAAQ to the impatient’, they say) is likely to be the last chance for anyone with a fondness for guitars to get their rock socks off. You may not have heard of TAAQ, but these Bangalore boys are serious business at home, having knocked out four albums, supported Guns ‘N’ Roses, and bagged a 26-night residency at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Dhs60. Friday July 5, 9pm-3am. The Music Room, Majestic Hotel Tower (04 359 8888).
Ultimate Foam Party at XL Beach Club Best for: Adolescent fun XL ramps up the juvenile factor for its farewell with that much-loved throwback – a foam party. Don’t fear the sun though, it’s all taking place under a cosy air-conditioned tent. Meanwhile there’s also DJs to be announced and ‘the infamous excel show’ to look forward to. Quite why it’s infamous, we have no idea. Free for ladies before 8pm and free for men before 6pm, Dhs100 after. Friday July 5, 3pm-3am. XL Beach Club, Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa (056 640 6161).
What Da Funk presents Karavan with Pierre Ravan at Chameleon Best for: International clubbers Dubai-based, internationally-renowned DJ Pierre Ravan may be best known for recording and sampling Sufi drummers to create his own brand of ‘spiritual house’, but we’re told the former fashion DJ will be upping the tempo with ‘strictly’ funky and vocal house at this closer. Meanwhile the What Da Funk team has cooked up a brand new light show and live entertainment. Men Dhs100; ladies free. Thu July 4, 9pm-3am. Chameleon, Byblos Hotel, TECOM (04 448 8000).
