In a bid to lure both amateurs and pros out onto the fairway, the city’s top courses are shaving prices and offering up great deals throughout summer. Kelly Crane unearths some of the best.
Fact: the mercury is rising, but the price of a game of golf in Dubai is certainly not.
A few years ago, it was widely reported the UAE boasted some of the most expensive rounds of golf on the planet. A nip round the world-renowned championship course at St Andrews in Scotland, steeped in history and frequented by the pros, would set you back less than a stint at many of Dubai’s courses. But summer sees golf become a sport everyone can afford, as clubs look to keep traffic on the greens at a constant throughout what would normally be the quieter months.
Agreed, it’s a tad warm. But suck up the bad and revel in the good and you could be giving Tiger Woods a run for his money by autumn.
Meydan The Track at the reworked Meydan is probably the best place to start, offering as it does a nine-hole deal for just Dhs100 from Sunday to Thursday, 6.30am-4pm, until the end of August. Early risers will make the most of this one and could even complete the course in around two hours before heading into the office to shuffle that paperwork for another day. Arabian Ranches Golf Club A trek a little further into the desert will take you to the impressively reduced green fees at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club. Forget handing over upwards of Dhs800 and try Dhs235 from Sunday to Thursday and only Dhs295 at the weekend. The generous club will even throw in a cart and balls. Emirates Golf Club The early bird catches the worm rings true on the Majlis Course this summer with the early bird special deal. Arguably the premier course in Dubai, host of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, this course has welcomed all the greats in its 25-year history. It will also set you back Dhs1,000 in the winter. Tee off before 8am for nine holes from Sunday to Thursday, plus pick up a breakfast sandwich if you are not fasting, coffee and cart and you’ll be just Dhs275 out of pocket. Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club Learn golf in a week at the academy. Ideal for anyone looking to try the game for the first time, not only do you get six hours of professional tuition covering the main aspects of the game, but also two weeks of free driving-range practice, including any equipment you may need.
