The Aussies may have made several attempts at claiming the modern ritual of al fresco grilling as their own, but whatever nationality you are, the smell of food over an open flame is bound to set your mouth watering. With dozens of public barbecue stations in almost every park in the city, Dubai residents are by no means confined to their own back gardens, and as October (finally!) approaches, it’s time to break out the braai again and start showing off your skills. Frevo The newest style of barbecue to hit Dubai is Brazilian ‘churrasco’. You can try this Brazilian barbecue experience, where the meat is grilled on skewers and carved at the table, in any of the city’s churrascarias (all confusingly beginning with ‘F’: Frevo, Fogo Vivo, Foguiera). At Frevo at Fairmont The Palm, you can try a selection of 15 different types of barbecued meats, in addition to classics soups, salads and appetisers, all to the sounds of live Latin music. Méridien Village Terrace This hot spot for evening theme nights hosts an all-you-can-eat outdoor barbecue event every Saturday night. It features marinated salmon, sherry steak, grilled chicken wings and lamb kebabs prepared at live cooking stations, as well as a salad buffet and live music. Dhs219 per person (house beverages). Nomad During October, al fresco friendly concept spot Nomad launches a new barbecue experience, where guests can ‘grill it yourself’ at the specially appointed barbecue tables outside. Items on the Nomad barbecue menu stick to the restaurant’s pan-Asian dining concept and they include dishes such as garlic prawn skewers, teriyaki beef, short ribs, Thai marinated chicken thighs and pomegranate rack of lamb. Ocean Blue Jumeirah Beach Hotel launches a new weekly barbecue event on Friday October 11. The deal promises a selection of freshly prepared barbecue, live entertainment, sea views and an activities corner to keep the kids busy. The barbecue event at Ocean Blue will take place in addition to the longstanding winter barbecue event at Beachcombers on Saturday evenings. (Dhs230 per person, 6.30pm-11.30pm). Plaj The newly relaunched al fresco spot hosts a series of barbecue deals across the week, all served alongside live music. Shades Shades, the terrace dining spot at The Address Dubai Marina, serves a barbecue special each evening. Guests can choose to have food prepared for them on their own personal barbecue, or try firing up their dinner themselves. Sonamu Although it may not classically be what you think of when it comes to barbecue, the Koreans are famous for their own version, and do a mean line in table-side grilling. The Terrace ‘Unwind at The Terrrace’ is a Saturday barbecue event re-launching this winter. In addition to Argentinean beef, jumbo squid, mustard and tarragon-marinated chicken and salmon skewers coming off the grill, the menu includes sides and starters such as salads, cheese and cold cuts.
