As the temperatures cool we round up the best places to drink outside in the open
The winner of our Best Outdoor Bar award two years running, it’s safe to say that here at Time Out we’re pretty fond of the One&Only’s top al fresco spot.

Well located at the far end of The Walk at JBR, Bliss hosts hot themed weekly club nights which channel some of the finest tunes to a clued up crowed.

There’s far more to Calabar than the terrace’s views of The Dubai Fountains and the pulsing crowds below – the mixed drinks are suburb and the soundtrack sublime, with regular international guest DJs.

The Terrace at No.5 Lounge & Bar
Recently relaunching after the summer heat, No.5’s effortlessly stylish terrace is back with two hip new nights which totally run against the bar’s DIFC location. Check out global beats and breaks, plus live street art displays from guest spray artists, at Art After Dark every Sunday. Meanwhile the bar’s Latino-themed ladies night kicks back into swing on Wednesdays.

Pure Sky Lounge
This brand new space-age bar is situated on the 35th floor of the Hilton’s residential JBR tower, offering great views out to the Palm and beyond.

With its wide terrace, delicate lighting and relaxed views across the creek, The Terrace is one of the best spots for an intimate drink in town. The exception to this rule is Fridays, when post-brunchers tend to congregate.

The winner of our Best Club award earlier this year, 360° is among the most iconic of all Dubai’s unmistakable venues. 360° views from a jetty 1km out to sea, sunset views and some of the best house music in town, courtesy of Audio Tonic and co. Need we say more?
Jumeirah Beach Hotel (04 406 8744).
The outdoor terrace attached to the Rivington Grill’s Madinat bar is a delight, with great views and a relaxed and airy feel, plus an upper deck which is perfect for private parties.

The upstairs terrace and outdoor lounge bar areas attached to celeb chef Richard Sandoval’s refurbished Modern Mexican Kitchen are great spaces, fed by fiery Latino beats and fiercer mixed drinks. Well worth a look.
Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa, Dubai Marina (04 399 5555).
Were it all interior, Rosso could easily have been a pleasant but unmemorable bar attached to an Italian restaurant. Thankfully the sweeping terrace, a spot of tranquillity suspended over the throb of JBR down below, makes this one of the most appealing bars in the whole of New Dubai.

As well as hosting some great one-off clubnights, as a chilled beach bar Nasimi offers a perfect spot for sundowners, and should be on the itinerary for any visitor to Dubai.

Dubai Marina Yacht Club’s upstairs bar has a great terrace offering twinkly views of the Marina’s boats and waterway.

An exercise in taste and class inside, it’s the incredible twilight views from the 25th floor terrace of this bar that win us over every time.

Recently re-launched with a new branded hops garden, the Habtoor’s beachside bar offers a great spot for sundowners.
Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa, Dubai Marina (050 253 9797).
This waterside venue boasts a chilled vibe and great creekside views, and explodes into a hive of activity at weekends.

101 Dining Lounge and Bar
101’s peaceful vista, at the end of a jetty at the far end of The Palm, offers unreplicable tranquillity.

Belgium Beer Café Festival City
All of the city’s three BBCs host pretty notable terraces, but it’s Festival City which takes the crown with breathtaking views of the sun setting across the creek.

Tucked round the corner from the main Madinat stretch in Al Qasr, stumbling upon Arabian themed bar Koubba is like a finding buried treasure – not least because of the huge terrace, offering waterways views, and tastefully decorated like a desert escape.

One of the Media City Radisson’s two rooftop bars, established Tamanya has recently been creating a fresh buzz thanks to some hot new promoters moving in. Check out the eclectic beats being served up by Dust and Electric Days.

There aren’t many places in the world where you can soak up all the atmosphere of the seaside, while lying on a sun lounger in the midst of the tallest building in the world. But you can at Cabana, which floats eight floors up at The Address Dubai Mall, the Burj Khalifa towering overhead.

Recently kicking off the new season with a pirate-themed party, this Cuban bar (go figure) is a pleasant outdoor spot amid the Habtoor Grand’s sprawling gardens.

The space which was once (the Chinese bar) Red Lounge has now been incorporated into (the Japanese restaurant) Tomo – but no matter, this venue has kept the fantastic outdoor terrace open to drinkers, so still qualifies for this list. Expect some of the best views in town.

The winner of our Best New Bar award in 2012, oh-so-chic Siddharta is now firmly established on the city’s nightlife map, its twinkly rooftop often found bustling with trendy types.
Grosvenor House Dubai, Dubai Marina (04 399 8888).
Located just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Irish Village, the other side of the pond (okay, there’s also a bridge), Nomad is like the younger, smarter and much better dressed nephew of its better known brother. Amid the sprawling restaurant-lounge concept is a huge waterside garden, which in the past has hosted outdoor movies, club nights and more.

White X Beach & Lounge
Located at the farthest tip of the Palm’s frond, White X could easily be a tranquil spot to sit back, take a sip and enjoy the vista. It often is around sundown, but later into the evening expect all the atmosphere of a pumping beach club.

While anyone who’s been in Dubai more than five minutes is unlikely to be unfamiliar with Barasti, there’s no denying its many charms, which include a mix of live music, screened sports, decent dining, a clubby beach – and most recently a new pool games deck.

Fogueira Restaurant & Lounge
While it’s better known for the lively churrasco restaurant inside, the pleasant 35th floor terrace is worth a visit for sundowners alone.

The Irish Village
The Irish Village’s large, grassy garden, complete with live music, is perhaps the closest thing to a traditional hops garden that you’ll find in the emirate. And for that we commend it heartily.

Media City’s best known bar is kept ticking over with a healthy blend of post work drinkers, one-off art events and weekend club nights.

Hilton pool bar
The creekside Hilton’s calming pool bar is so overlooked and unknown, it doesn’t even have a real name. Primarily meant for hotel guests, this quaint and undiscovered spot offers some of the best creek views in town – perfect for wowing guests and hardened Dubaians alike.
