Fri Nov 29 UAE National Day Family Fun Day The Lost Chambers Aquarium’s latest family fun day has a special UAE theme, with champion UAE freediver Ahmed Koori and his team performing a traditional pearl freedive, plus a waving of the UAE flag conducted underwater in the Ambassador Lagoon. Meanwhile, an exhibit of local fish species the Unicorn Leatherjacket will be lit in the colours of the UAE flag, while guests will also be able to have their faces painted in the colours of the flag and try henna tattoos. National Day, Mon Dec 2 See impressive local art The 24 winning pieces of art from the Treasures of the UAE art competition are exhibited in a special show. Chosen from 283 pieces by students from 61 schools across the country, the works capture the essence of the UAE’s famous historical sites and landmarks. Until January 5. Attend a stunning parade Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard hosts the UAE National Day Parade 2013, where there will be a host of family-friendly activities to get involved with. Dubai Marina Boat Parade See boats parade up and down the Dubai Marina canal in UAE-themed decorations, including iconic buildings and indigenous wildlife. The day will also feature a line-up of family entertainment including face painting, a treasure hunt, live cooking stations and prize draws. Free. Noon-7pm (boat parade 2pm-4pm). Abaji concert at Alliance Française This special concert to mark the occasion of National Day sees the Beirut-born musician Abaji play a variety of different genres on instruments such as a the bouzouki, saz, oud, lyra and harmonica, in five different languages. Family fun day at Al Tamimi Stables Celebrate UAE National Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony and singing of the national anthem. There will also be belly dancing performances and the chance to learn a step or two, henna tattoos, flag-making workshops, and the opportunity to learn about equestrian care.
