With a handful of skate parks now open in the city, we delve into Dubai’s urban scene and five homegrown riders showcase the latest street threads.

How long have you been skating? It’s been 13 years now.
How has the skate scene evolved in Dubai? More kids are getting hooked on skateboarding. Back in 2001 we were mostly skating the streets and searching for new spots. With new buildings popping up everywhere, it was always fun on going on new spot search missions.
Best place to skate in Dubai? Deira, Business Bay skatepark, Rage Bowl and Tashkeel. All offer a totally different terrain.
Where do you hang out? Barasti is pretty chilled and Step On indie-rock nights at Casa Latina are always fun.
Favourite brands? Volcom and Emerica.
Best skate tunes? Black Sabbath.

Best skating travel destination? Barcelona, Spain.
Best place you’ve skated? SMP Park in Shanghai, China. It’s one of the biggest skateparks in the world and has a massive vert course.
How has the skate scene evolved in Dubai? When I started, there was only a handful of skaters, and now it’s grown into a whole movement.
Favourite brand? Deathwish Skateboards and Palace Skateboards.
Where do you shop? Rage mostly, then sometimes at H&M, Vans, Adidas, Nike and Zara.
Where do you hang out? Girders in JBR.
Best places to skate in Dubai? Business Bay skatepark. It has a good atmosphere, is really laid back and there’s no pressure. Also Deira Fountains, just because of the history. It’s been a landmark in the Dubai skate scene for nearly a decade.
Best skate tunes? JUNIP, Kendrick Lamar, Gnarls Barkley, Michael Jackson, Sam & Dave, The Cardigans, Band Of Horses, Cam’Ron, Group Home, Ambulance Ltd.
Best skating travel destination? Barcelona and anywhere in the US that’s played a big part in skateboarding, such as LA and NYC.
