There’s no better time than Father’s Day to show your dad how much he means to you
Time Out Dubai staff
Celebrated on the third Sunday of June in countries all around the world, Father’s Day takes place this year on Sunday June 15. It’s a time to celebrate dad for all his terrible jokes, bad dance moves and hopeless inability to get you and your siblings’ names the right way round, despite almost 30 years’ practice. Brilliant dads around the world are ever-more involved with their kids’ lives, with the number of stay-at-home fathers rising in many countries across the globe, while others spend many hours working boring desk jobs to fund demands for the latest One Direction-themed merchandise. We take a look at some of the newest and coolest ways to thank dad this month in Dubai.
For the action dad For the adventure-loving man who raised you, the Palm’s Dive Discovery is a great way to get into underwater pursuits. One of several different activities on offer in the 11 million litre Ambassador Lagoon at the heart of the Atlantis The Palm hotel, the discovery is an introductory diving experience that doesn’t require a licence. The two-hour course sees beginner divers do a basic skills session before a 20-minute dive – it’s a great jump-off experience before signing up for a full PADI certification. Dhs1,150. Ongoing. Atlantis The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 426 1030).
For always-stressed dad Say thank you by booking your dad a relaxing massage, facial or body treatment at swanky gentlemen’s grooming lounge 1847, which is giving sons a chance to join their fathers by offering a complimentary 15-minute foot reflexology massage with any treatment booked. Prices vary. Valid Sunday June 15 only. 1847, various locations including The Walk, JBR (04 422 1847).
For the food-loving dad On Sunday June 15, a Father’s Day lunch buffet is available at Flow Kitchen – and dads dine for free when accompanied by the family, with at least one other full-paying adult. The menu includes pan-seared foie gras, freshly shucked oysters, beef prime rib carvery and roasted duck. Dhs155 per guest. Sun June 15, noon-3.30pm. Flow Kitchen, Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 467 3388).
Meanwhile, on Friday June 13, the competitive dads out there may like to take on the dining challenge presented by Brazilian steakhouse Frevo at its Friday brunch. Entrants will be pitted against each other to devour the largest number of beef ribs in an allocated time period, with prizes including a free Friday brunch, membership to the hotel’s health club and T-shirts to commemorate their participation all up for grabs. A seat in the competition must be reserved at the time of booking brunch. Dhs240 per person (soft drinks), Dhs340 (house beverages), Dhs410 (bubbly). Competition 1pm-2pm, brunch noon-3.30pm. Frevo, Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 47 3388).

Get an idea of how he would really measure up against Lewis Hamilton with these Dubai Autodrome sessions Dhs875. Ongoing. Dubai Autodrome, Motor City, www.dubaiautodrome.com (04 367 8745).
For the new dad Proud new papas will no doubt be pleased to get their mitts on Sony’s new Handycam, a full HD camcorder, which not only features technology to help you maintain a steady shot, but also has easy wireless sharing and even a built-in projector, allowing dads to bore all and sundry to tears with videos of their kids. Dhs4,199. Available from Jumbo, locations across Dubai including Mall of the Emirates (04 341 0101).

Each book includes as many photographs as you like, for the same set price. Dhs350. Ongoing. Fishfayce, email@example.com (800 347 432 823).
