Jumeirah Open Beach This free public beach has long been a popular place to swim and catch some rays. In recent years, improvements have added to the strip’s appeal, with jogging and cycling tracks, showers, changing rooms and kiosks making the sandy stretch an easy place to while away a weekend. Next to Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa, off Jumeirah Beach Road (no number).
Engine Health & Fitness Looking like something plonked on Beach Road from the future, this glass-clad gym is perhaps one of the road’s most eye-catching structures. Inside, you’ll find state-of-the-art equipment, cool group exercise classes and a refreshment bar, plus the gym even offers ladies-only hours. Next to Jumeira Plaza, Jumeirah Beach Road (04 381 9999).
Jumeirah 2 Dubai Ladies Club As the name suggests, this centre is an exclusive women-only facility offering fitness and exercise classes, watersports, scuba diving programmes, a spa, salon, kids club, regular art events and more. Next to Jumeirah Beach Park, Jumeirah Beach Road (04 349 9922).
Jumeirah Beach Park With shaded, grassy areas and an expansive, clean beach, this park is one of the most pleasant in the city. Lifeguards keep an eye on the crowds, a kiosk serves up hot and cold refreshments and on Sundays and Wednesdays, the entire place is open only to the fairer gender. Jumeirah 3 Dubai Offshore Sailing Club Learn to sail at this long-standing club, or if you’re already a pro, become a member and take advantage of a raft of benefits, and if you’re lucky enough to own one, you can apply for a place to berth your vessel. There’s also a clubhouse with a fantastic view overlooking the sea, but sadly it is only open to members. Off Jumeirah Beach Road, behind KFC (04 394 1669).
Kite Beach Join or watch Dubai’s impressive clan of kitesurfers, or relax under the shade of a parasol. It’s a go-to for those keen on sports, with regular bouts of beach football, volleyball, and swimming events taking place. Off 2D Street, near Jumeirah 3 Park 2 (no number).
Surf House Dubai The relaunch of long-standing favourite Surf Dubai, this hangout near the beach now not only offers paddle and surfboards to rent, but also sells Quiksilver and Roxy products and houses a dedicated yoga studio. Al Soon Street, near Sunset Beach (050 504 3020).
Wild Wadi Throw yourself down the Jumeirah Sceirah, whirl around Tantrum Alley or relax with a drift around the lazy river at Dubai’s original waterpark, themed around the adventures of Arabian folklore character Juha. Next to Jumeirah Beach Hotel (04 348 4444).
