Beauty blogger, Stacey Fell, rounds up the season's catwalk trends
Stacey Fell, beauty blogger at www.expatmakeupaddict.com, rounds up this season’s catwalk trends and gives Louise Emma Clarke some top make-up application tips so you can replicate these looks at home.
The ‘no make-up’ make-up look Dior and Valentino both sent models down the runway wearing a polished, slightly elfin look. Hair was slicked into ponytails, skin was natural and dewy, but there was no other real ‘texture’ to it. Cheeks had a hint of a dusky rose matte blush and lips had a nude stain or slick of lip balm. The key here is grooming – use a clear brow gel for definition and a BB or CC Cream to even out your skin tone.
Try: Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream. Dhs76. Available at Boots Pharmacy, various locations including The Dubai Mall (04 339 9383).
Contouring Versace models had extremely chiseled cheekbones, while Alexander Wang showed very clean, contoured skin. Use a matte, grey-toned bronzer for the most natural, catwalk worthy cheekbones. Imagine the line running from the top of your eye towards the corner of your mouth but stopping halfway along and then buff to get rid of harsh lines. A little contouring can do wonders for changing the shape of your face and making it appear slimmer and more angled.
Try: NARS Contour Blush, Dhs219. Available at Sephora, The Dubai Mall, www.sephora-me.com (04 339 9828).
Inky black eyes Lots of black eyeliner was seen on the Tommy Hilfiger and Rachel Zoe catwalk, but with a real focus on lining the upper lash line only and then adding a subtle cat flick for maximum drama. Liquid and gel eyeliners work best for this look. Pair with lightly contoured cheekbones, no blush and a classic lip with just a slick of gloss.
Try: Lush Independent Liquid Liner. Dhs85. Lush, various locations including Mercato Mall, www.lush.ae (04 344 9334).
Bright lips Bright lips ruled the runway. Think along the lines of neon pink and bold red. Pair with a similar-toned lip liner to stop lipstick bleeding outside of your natural lip line and keep the rest of your make-up subtle and simple. Drop the winter-inspired matte lips and go for glossy finishes. A great look for lazy days is to paint on bright lips, grab your biggest pair of sunglasses and you’re good to go.
Try: Sisley Paris Phyto Lip Gloss, Dhs195. Available at Harvey Nichols, Mall of the Emirates, Al Barsha (04 409 8888).
Marsala Marsala is Pantone’s Colour of the Year – a robust, earthy red-brown that translates to lips, cheeks and eyes. It complements all skin tones and eye colours. Wear Marsala-toned lips with gold eyes and lots of black liner, or combine Marsala-toned cheeks with peachy pink glossy lips.
Try: IsaDora Bronzing Powder, Dhs100. Available at Paris Gallery, various locations including The Dubai Mall, www.parisgallery.com (04 330 8289).
