From magic shows to aerialists plus jazz singers and Tango dancing, Dubai has plenty on offer for those who want to dine and be entertained. Here are our suggestions for where to go to enjoy a meal and a show at the same time.
1 Pacha Imagine indulging in world-class cuisine within a modern, purpose build theatre while enjoying a unique showcase of dancing, singing, lighting and music. Envision bewitching, theatrical ambiance, acrobats, contortionists, seductive singers and exotic dancers. Feel the excitement that live shows create, the audience interaction, and the dazzling exuberance of feathers, sequins and paillettes of burlesque.
Utilising a number of talented performers to deliver 20 acts per night, five nights a week, the live shows are rarely the same. Using the artistic collaboration between the singers, dancers, aerialists and other special performers, the evening will be punctuated with varying pace and energy around the diners and the partygoers. Fully trained staff are a part of the entertainment, and performers interact with guests to create a complete, unrivalled dining experience. Dinner costs around Dhs800 for two people. 2 The Act The venue offers a range of entertainment while dining, including the incredible Rocker Girlz show, but on Saturday 21 March, The Act Dubai will host One Night at the Opera in collaboration with The Emirates Opera Project. It presents a grandiose evening of operatic delectable delights paired with the perfect blend of Peruvian cuisine prepared by The Act Dubai’s award-winning chef Roberto Segura making your taste palettes sing with unforgettable performances, transporting you into the magical world of Opera. 3 Asado at The Palace Downtown Dubai The perfect way to enjoy the vibrant culture of Argentina in the heart of Dubai. Sundays and Wednesdays are now known as Tango Nights where all Tango lovers can dance the night away every Sunday night and learn a few steps or two. While on Wednesday nights professional dancers take to the stage as they entertain you, friends and family with a series of spectacular performances. 4 Sass Taking place weekly, ‘Mondays Made Me’ sets a new standard for weeknight dining and entertainment. Every Monday, guests can either book a table for dinner from 7pm to midnight as well as make a later booking for evening entertainment to add a little bit of ‘sass’ to the beginning of the week. New standard for weeknight a la carte dining and entertainment with live piano and singer performance from 7pm until midnight followed by a DJ from midnight till 3am. 5 Mazina Spend a memorable time with family and friends at Mazina every Saturday. While you feast on the exceptional tastes of international cuisines, the kids will be entertained with a variety of activities including a magic show. 12.30pm to 3.30pm. 7 Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge New plates arriving on the menu are served sharing style making each an ideal choice for guests whilst enjoying spirited evenings out with friends. Seafood lovers will delight in the Atlantic Salmon, Crab Sliders, Maui Waui Shrimp or Volcano Prawns dishes, whilst Asian palettes are catered to with an array of sushi, including the Mai Tai Sushi Sampler and mouth-watering Tuna Sashimi Tempura.
Guests can kick back and relax whilst enjoying the venue’s selection of favourite fruity concoctions and listening to the live, Cuban musical stylings of Essencia Cubana. The Latin duo combines pianist Yasiel Diaz and percussionist Indira Hernandez, both of whom also contribute vocals. Essencia Cubana celebrates music that is quintessentially Cuban, with popular renditions of Salsa, Bolero, Cha Cha Cha and Mambo classics. The duo’s Bachata and Merengue performances are not to be missed, inevitably attracting even the most reticent dancer to the floor.
Spring into the new season with an ultimate Polynesian experience at Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge, filled with lively tropical flavours and fun. Essencia Cubana will perform at Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge from Monday-Thursday between 9.30pm to 1.30am. First floor, Al Fattan Tower, Jumeirah Beach Residence (04 386 5646).
6 The Gramercy The venue’s raw, live lounge vibe welcomes the freshest musical talent in the UAE. Although the main focus is jazz, they branch out into other popular realms of music including swing, Latin and soul, with talented live acts performing on stage all week and special stand-up comedy nights and international acts entertaining audiences throughout the year.
Diners can enjoy quality home cooked cuisine throughout the day. Start by exploring the ‘Break the Fast’ morning menu, with an array of wholesome dishes such as Full English Breakfast, Steak and Egg and Fishcake Benedict. For lunch and dinner guests can devour dishes from the ‘For the Hungry’ section of the menu that features highlights such as the Wagyu Cheese Burger; a homemade 100 per cent Wagyu beef patty, topped with gherkins, onion relish, aioli and melted provolone cheese, Texan Style Short Ribs; slow braised Angus short cut ribs, marinated in mouthwatering Texan sauce and served on a cloud of mashed potato, and pan seared Sea Bass filled with beurre blanc, roasted carrots, fennel and new potatoes. 8 Benihana Pull up a seat at one of Benihana’s teppanyaki tables, place your order and then sit back and watch as the comical, swashbuckling chefs do their utmost to wow and entertain you with the help of their cooking utensils. It’s hardly the Chinese State Circus, but you can still expect lots of juggling, clinking of spatulas and broad, ultimately endearing smiles. Go on, don’t be so serious, loosen up and enjoy! 9 Boracay Currently due to launch on Tuesday October 1, this Filipino nightspot has a Las Vegas- inspired cabaret show in the pipelines to celebrates the club’s revamp. Guests will be able to feast on an international buffet while watching dancing and singing performed by staff sporting outlandish costumes. Dhs179 per person. 10 Jazz at Pizza Express Swinging into Dubai after the success of its branch in London’s jazz club heartland Soho, this outlet in JLT offers the same pizza and jazz combination over dinner. Whilst eating, guests can listen to the resident pianist every night of the week, with live acts which change on a monthly basis appearing on Thursday and Fridays and an open mic night on Tuesday.
