10 places in Dubai screening the Champions League Final and what offers are on
Barasti We really don’t need to recommend Barasti to anyone, but if by some bizarre fluke you have never been to what must be Dubai’s best known beach bar, there’s probably nowhere better to start. Put simply, Barasti is the bar that keeps on giving – whatever you’re looking for, and whatever the hour of the day. Just as the temperatures start to soar, the roof has gone over Barasti’s middle deck and will be ready right on time for this weekend’s Champions League Final! The structure, which measures 30m x 40m x 8m and is chilled to 22 degrees is the perfect place to watch Barcelona take on Juventus this Saturday… They’ve still got some work to do, but here’s how it’s looking. Open Sat 11am-1.30am. Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, Umm Suqeim, www.barastibeach.com (04 399 3333).
Zero Gravity Zero Gravity will be transformed into the ultimate viewing venue for the final between Barcelona and Juventus, with games and prizes. Free. 3pm-3am (match starts at 10.45pm). Zero Gravity, near SkyDive Dubai, Dubai Marina (04 399 0009).
Original Wings & Rings, DIFC Original Wings & Rings, DIFC will be doing a really good rate for the Champions League night. Pay Dhs200 and get unlimited buffet-style food from 9pm to 12am. You’ll have four typres of drinks to choose from - hops, house beverages, juices and other soft drinks. Liberty House, DIFC (04 359 6900).
Bidi Bondi Bidi Bondi might be the very antithesis of the Palm. A manmade paradise of golden beaches, luxury villas, castles and five-star resorts, it’s the last place you’d expect to find an Aussie pub/bar so chilled you feel overdressed in a collar. To the non-antipodean, much of the charm is the location. Because the bar is not based inside a hotel – no walking across a crystal-lined lobby to reach the faux-dive pub – but in the bottom of an apartment block, Bidi’s possesses an unreplicable community feel, like stumbling into a student union bar without being a member of the university. Like an ‘old man’s pub’ for young men (and women). Open Sat-Wed 10ammidnight; Thu-Fri 10am-1am. Palm Jumeirah (04 427 0515).
La Porte des Indes Live streaming on big screens Dhs225 includes bucket of hops (six) and chef’s special canapes. They also have a Spanish menu full of speciality rices and paellas as well as tapas. The Address Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai, Dubai (04 438 8610).
McGettigan’s DWTC Dubai’s second branch of this ever-booming Irish pub is an all-round hit. Offering a relaxed but atmospheric pub vibe, the welcoming, jovial feel ensure this spot is busy the week round – especially during weekends, even when the nearby offices are empty. For bar band fans, it’s a top spot to watch live sport. With a real community feel and quirky promotions – check social media for one-offs, such as football themed freebies depending on who scores – this is hands down one of the best pubs in the city. Next to Dubai World Trade Centre Arena, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.mcgettigans.com (04 378 0800).
Garden on 8 As hinted at in the name, Garden on 8 is an amusing riff on Dubai’s penchant for al fresco watering holes. Designed to look like a homely pub garden, the new Dubai Media City bar sits adjacent to the Media One Hotel’s more established poolside outlet Dek on 8. Casual, but not devoid of a few interesting quirks, the spacious venue boasts fake grass and potted plants, while lawn gnomes lurk behind rows of large picnic tables. The bar menu is, like the venue, simple and straight-forward, but with a special and unique emphasis on apple-based beverages, of which there’s an interesting variety to sample. Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City, Dubai (04 427 1000)
Lounge Café Italiano Described as an urban eatery with a chic Mediterranean twist, only Juventus supporters are allowed to get in so don’t come dressed in your Barcelona shirt! While you watch the game get stuck into some dishes such as the beef carpaccio, deep fried pizza or homemade lasagna. Lounge Café Italiano, Arenco Tower, Dubai Media City
Nezesaussi Grill Following extensive refurbishment across the entire Manzil Downtown Dubai hotel, popular sports bar Nezesaussi is back in the game. They’ll be showing all the action from Olympiastadion Berlin at 10.45pm. They recently wrote on Twitter: “We can't wait to see all the @juventusfc & @FCBarcelona fans this weekend at #NezesaussiGrill for the @UEFAcom finals! #ChampionsLeague”. Al Manzil Hotel, Downtown Dubai
Time Café Time Café is a sports lovers’ paradise; a huge, cavernous space lined with loud memorabilia and boasting space for 350 punters. Yet with 57 individual screens there will never be more than five other people jostling for your view. And if the game is rubbish there are rows of pool tables to start your own contest. A huge club-like sports bar which packs bags of attitude. Open daily noon-3am. Ramee Royal Hotel, Karama (04 334 4088).
