International Hops Day is upon us on Friday August 4, a day that has grown from small origins in California in 2007 to more than 200 cities across 50 countries and six continents worldwide today.
If you’re looking for places in which to grab a buddy and grab a pint (ahead of the arrival of Hopfest 2017 in September), we’ve unearthed some of the city’s best spots for a brew.
Barasti We’re already a fan of Barasti’s Wild Thing Saturday brunch recurring through summer, but if you a fancy a bit of action the night before, head down to The Lost World of Barasti. Throughout summer, the popular beach club has been transformed into a tropical jungle tent for summer, featuring Gorgeous George – the gorilla that went missing after the tent’s opening night. The Big Easy With stunning views overlooking the golf course belonging to South African golfing legend Ernie Els, Big Easy is a chilled spot for a pint and a bite to eat. The menu features dishes inspired from Els’s home country and from around the world, including a giant sharing meatball sub, game meats, pan-seared sea bass, salmon and more. Fri Aug 4 noon-11.30pm. Kickers This classic sports bar, appropriately found in Dubai Sports City, is offering up 33 percent off on hops to mark the occasion. Head to this Dubai institution from noon on Friday August 4 and soak in a bit of live sport, with the bar boasting five huge projectors and 11 TV screens. Fri Aug 4 noon-2am. McGettigan’s JLT One of the city’s best Irish sports is hosting a six-hour megabrunch from noon until 6pm on Fri Aug 4 for Dhs249, with food being served between noon and 4pm. There are various drinks offers and packages available between noon and 3am, while you can also enjoy live music all day long until late into the night from Khalil unplugged, DJ Athul, Oh! Mint Leaf of London A great spot for sundowners with panoramic views of Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa, this London export is running a special hops promotion on international, premium labels. Publique And the award for most intriguing offer goes to the Souk Madinat alpine ski-lodge bar. To mark the occasion, grab a glass of their hops mixed drink: hops, mixed with red berries, blended with a smoky, Tennessee short, shaken with egg whites and finished with citrus juices. Reform Social & Grill As well as launching a new brekkie menu recently (which we can’t wait to try), the classic British gastropub in The Greens is running a special promotion on hops. The Irish Village Obviously. With Hopfest 2017 just around the corner, and our pub of the year, The Irish Village is a Dubai institution, and is one of the best places to take in International Hops Day in our books. The Underground Pub This friendly London tube-themed pub has long been a stalwart of the nightlife scene in Dubai, and serves up a two-for-one happy hour from 4pm until 8pm on selected beverages.
