Nacho fan? Here are 11 of Dubai’s best nachos to try now
Time Out Dubai staff
Lock, Stock & Barrel Just like the Time Out Dubai Bar of the Year that serves them up, this behemoth bar snack is heaps of fun. Yes, it can get a bit messy and you might leave feeling like you never want to imbibe another thing, but that’s all part of the charm. Dhs59 (add chilli for Dhs15). Grand Millennium Hotel, Barsha Heights (04 514 9195).
UBK While we’re still – some years later – sore about UBK no longer serving bolognese nachos (every bit as glorious as they sound), The Daddy Nacho, pictured, is a worthy successor, piled with chicken, roasted corn, beans, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Prefer your meat a bit sweet? The BBQ Beef Nacho skillet swaps the chicken for pulled – you guessed it – barbecue beef. A sloppy, sticky success. Dhs75 (Daddy), Dhs80 (BBQ Beef). Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Cluster A, JLT (04 438 0000).
Qwerty One of the best-value options on this list, this colossal serving of cheese, chilli, salsa, sour cream and guacamole-smothered tortilla chips comes in at only Dhs45. A staggeringly huge, staggeringly well-priced feast. Dhs45. Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City (04 427 1000).
McGettigan’s A best-seller at the Irish pub chain, if your idea of a good bar snack is a mountain of meat, this wagyu beef chilli feast, with a dash of sour cream, pico de gallo and guacamole, should hit the spot. Dh72. McGettigan’s JLT (04 378 0800), DWTC (04 378 0801) and Madinat Jumeirah (04 447 0219).
360° With the arrival of so many new restaurants, bars and clubs every year, it can be easy to forget those old favourites. It might be too hot to enjoy 360°’s beautiful outdoor terrace, but the indoor bar and restaurant is still knocking out brilliant evenings. Kick yours off with this guac-slathered mountain, topped with kimchi sauce, tomato salsa and runny cheese. It’s a bargain at Dhs45, too. Dhs45. Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Umm Suqeim (04 406 8999).
Lucky Voice No messing around at this karaoke hotspot – the LV nachos arrive topped with guac, sour cream, tomato salsa, cheddar cheese and a scattering of fiery jalapeños. Add meats such as pulled beef (for an extra Dhs25) if that AC/DC rendition has got you feeling like a rockstar. Dhs60. Grand Millennium Hotel, Barsha Heights (800 58259).
Perry & Blackwelder’s Despite not being our own personal favourite (though shout out to this restaurant’s so-good-they’re-worth-the-cheese-dreams mozzarella sticks), we can’t dispute the appeal of P&B’s Texas BBQ smoked brisket nachos. At once both sweet and salty, and smothered in cinema-style cheese goo, it doesn’t get more authentically American strip-mall diner than this. Wash them down with a bottle of New York hops. Dhs45 (regular), Dhs65 (large). Aforementioned mozzarella sticks Dhs45. Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 432 3232).
Barasti While there’s strictly no monkey business when it comes to this legendary beach bar’s nacho offering – a classic combination of cheddar cheese, jalapeños, pico de gallo, guac, spring onions and salsa – they’re the only stack on this list that diners can enjoy surrounded by fake gorillas, lions and other jungle creatures, in an air-conditioned tent. Go wild, we say. Dhs65. Le Méridien Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street (04 318 1313).
Hard Rock Cafe Whether you’re in for the music or just to swerve crowds at the mall, the Hard Rock Nachos make good bar companions. Layered with three bean mix, two cheeses, pico de gallo, jalapeños, green onions and sour cream, add fajita beef if you’re famished (an extra Dhs17), or a splash of guac (Dhs13). Dhs43 (half portion), Dhs59 (full portion). Dubai Festival City (04 457 3720).
Brunswick Sports Club Leave it to Tom & Serg to put a healthy, gourmet spin on a traditionally cholesterol-spiking snack. Thankfully, beneath all that wholesome coriander, fresh guacamole and vibrant charred corn salsa, you’ll find blobs of smoked paprika sour cream, braised beef brisket and crunchy tortilla chips. Dhs70. Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates, Al Barsha (056 404 0685).
Bidi Bondi A classic medley of sour cream, gaucamole, salsa et al. But we particularly love that this laid-back Aussie spot on the Palm Jumeirah uses real shredded cheese, keeping its tortillas clumped together and allowing greedier sharers to – in just a few strategic moves – nab all the best, most heavily garnished tortillas. No, we’re not sorry, and no, we don’t like sharing. Dhs60, add chilli con carne (Dhs20) or three-bean chilli (Dhs20). Clubhouse Al Manhal, Shoreline Apartments, Palm Jumeirah (04 427 0515).
